I disagree. Waves rock, I agree on that, but flatwater rocks too. At my local beach, we have an inlet that has flat water at low tide and open ocean that mostly has small waves from mid-tide and higher. I usually kite in the afternoon, after the sea breeze kicks in, and it is great to cycle my terrain choices with the tides. When it is low tide I'll go to the inlet for flat water and when it is high tide I'll go out in the waves. In flatwater, I often switch to my pocket board (~80cm), ride super small kites just for the fun of slinging them around, and work on perfecting maneuvers and transitions. I can spend hours in a 20 meter stretch of water and have a blast.
