Tried a Lift e-foil today

Postby RRC1962 » Wed Aug 10, 2022 10:54 pm

Tons of fun. First time on any type pf foil. I was foiling on my knees in 10 minutes. After two hours I was able to cruise around on the board standing with brief moments on the foil. The downside is now I have to have one.

I'm considering the Lift 5'9 with 300 front wing and 48 rear. The board I demoed was 5'4 with a 250 front and 38 rear. Instructor thought I should go to the larger board and wing given my weight. Price with the extended battery is $13,000.

The other board I'm considering is the Foil with 250 wing and extended battery. This has the best battery range of pretty much all of them. The board is 5'8 so bigger than what I rode today. Price is only $7100.

Can anyone share experiences particularly with the Foil brand boards? I'm not a small guy so a big board with some buoyancy is a plus. I would love to be able to just stand on the boar dead in the water. Not sure if that's possible at my weight with the current efoil lineup on the market right now. I would love to demo the Foil but the closest dealer is 11 hours away. I'm on the fence between buying the larger Lift with a supporting dealer in the neighborhood or taking a shot on the Foil and saving $6000. I haven't really seen negative review on either but also haven't seem one showing bigger guys riding either board.

You don't say your weight, which would help...

Between those and without more info... definitely get the 5'8 with the 250.

If you were starting to get the 250 to work on the first day, theres no reason to go for a bigger foil wing.

Hard to say what the right size board is without knowing your weight, but 5'8" vs 5'9" is basically the same.

Are both options new? E-foils are stupid expensive but $7100 seems like a pretty good price for a Lift setup. Absolutely no reason to pay almost $6000 more for basically the same setup. Even if you decided the 250 was too small, you can buy the 300 wing for ~$1000, and it will still be $5000 cheaper. Am I missing something?

Sorry, I'm around 240lbs. The lift is $13000. Lift has been around for a few years. Board size is 5'9 but they don't have that size to demo so I was on a 5'4 with 250 wing. I could go to a 300 wing with this board. Dealer is local and a great shop to deal with.

The Foil brand, which is relatively new to the market, is $7100. The biggest wing they have is 250 which I think is fine. I'm more concerned about board stability and buoyancy. Hard to demo this board with the nearest dealer 11 hours away.

The Foil is at getfoil.com

OK. Disregard my feedback. I thought they were both Lift. I have no knowledge of the other brand. It might be totally fine, but it might be a total bust. Personally I wouldn't spend that kind of money on anything but the big brands (Lift, Flite, Takuma).

Takuma has a big floaty board, but they might not be big in the US. Flite has a 140L inflatable that sounds interesting. I think Flite has a US presence in New York. I agree though. Saving 5 or 6k isn't a real motivator if the cheaper board is nothing but problems.

I’m 210-220 depending on season and I’ve been happily riding 5’0” and 4’9” Lift boards with 250 HA (v1 which is same as 250 Surf v2) and with 200 Surf v2 wings using 40 and 38 stabilizers respectively. Tried 170 HA but it was a bit too small. Don’t go to 300 wing, the 250 will be plenty. I also rode 4’4” with 250/40 and it only took me few more seconds to adjust to board length and position during starting and I loved the small board and would swap my 4’9” for 4’2” any moment of I could.
Of 3 brands I tried, Lift has offered top quality, delivered the quietest ride and longest battery range.
Price matters though and if you get Lift 3f with 250/38 and full battery you’d save $2000+

The only downside to the 3F is that is doesn't come in 5'9. I'm looking more for the SUV of efoils, not the sportscar version. :) Honestly, I'm leaning towards the Lift3 with the bigger battery. I agree on wing size. Thanks for confirming that. I did well on the 250. The 300 probably makes more drag also, which would effect battery life. A bigger board would have been more stable. only 5" longer than what I rode today.

I spent a solid 2 hours mostly just plowing or planing the board and was down to 20% battery. I think the demo board has the standard capacity battery. The extended battery will add more time. I think once I'm foiling more I'll be fine with the Lift battery range.

Have you had any trouble with the Lift battery? They only warranty them for a year and they are crazy expensive to replace.

I believe warranty is for two years. 3f comes in 5’4” and it’s plenty big. 3f has an option to come with large battery. The only thing you might be missing is 32” mast which is $1800 value on its own. Given folks sell 28” mast for $1200 and 32” costs $3k

What's your purpose behind the e-foil? I like the look of the Australian 'Foil Drive' system. Mainly because I think the idea of riding swell is more fun than the idea of just blasting up and down the coast like you might on a jetski.

I think their new system can be used as an efoil though the battery life won't be as much as the dedicated e-foils. You can then tailor your board/wing completely to your own requirements with a modular system like Foil Drive.
