She just needs to get used to flying actively to generate power instead of park and ride.
Very true for small kite sizes however that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
I personally find it annoying/tiring if I must move the kite continuously just to be able to keep going, especially on the less efficient toeside where continues steering is also a bit more of a pain due to the bar being only easily accessible with one hand.
Rather then going very small for the light rider I think there is just as much as an argument for the heavy rider to go with a bigger kite. Especially if you ever want to start jumping you might as well get used to a bit more power. Also footswitches/tacks etc are easier to learn when you have plenty of power/lift available.

Agree leeuwen, it is not everybodys cup of tea riding as small as possible.
The thing is though, being 55 % heavier it is very unlikely he would ride the same size as her, no matter how powered.
When both get more experience that is

Thanks for the helpful information.
Short summary
1. Most Important: Happy wife, Happy life!!!!
2. The gap of 2 meters is suitable.
3. Improve our technique - overcome our lack of experience
4. Add a 4 meter kite for strong wind.
When we have finished point 3 i can give further feedback (it will probably take 2 or 3 years) so hang on......

Save your money on a 4.
You don’t want to go kiting in such strong wind, and for sure not your wife.
Safety first.

I think you missed that they are foiling.
At 50kg you can probably easily ride that 4m from 20 knots and if you like to be underpowered maybe even from around 15kn with a lot of active flying on a big hydrofoil like they have.
Not really what I would call strong winds

On the contrary: you want to have a small kite so you're not too powered up. I would guess a 50 kg foiler could use a 4m in anything over 16 knots. The safety in foiling comes from being way less powered than someone riding a TT.

Hard to say without really knowing what level you two are at. However, improvement takes place quite steadily (assuming you have enough time on the water). I can say for sure though that 2m is a perfectly reasonable gap between kite sizes for you and your wife. If you absolutely feel the urge to buy extra kites, you would gain more by getting the in-between sizes - like 8m and 6m - rather than duplicating your existing sizes. It does leave you with more kites to transport when traveling however.

6m soul FS and 9m sonic 3 FS. You are good to go from the high single digits to the mid 20s kts.
The guy will as a matter of Darwinian conditioning and virility signalling will grind out the low wind sessions on the 9m while the non Neanderthal girl fiend or wife will sensibly wait until she can ride the 6m in some civilized wind.
I normally charge big fees for this kind of couples counselling but was feeling particularly generous today.
