Tacking, big foil kite is so much easier, you need the lift from the kite for the foot switch. If you not into tacking you can easily get away with much smaller kites.

Hi I'm curious what kite size and foil wing size people use in 10-12 knts conditions and what type of foiling are you doing? I got a little bit more into foiling this year cuz I wasn't having much fun on TT in winds below 15knts and got tired of kites bigger than 12m and wanted to get on the water and cruise around with sailboats and just kind of get more days on the water in the summer when winds are light around here. I'm currently using 9m crazyfly infinity and crazyfly foil 1200cm2 I'm able to get going in 9 knts
Kite: Boxer 9m (LEI 1-struct)
Wing: F-One IC6 850cm^2
Stab: F-One IC6 300cm^2
Mast: 95cm aluminum
Flap (Brazilian brand) Pocket Board 3’11” 15,8L

I'm 1,85m and 75kg and about one and half year on hydrofoil practicing and can do gybes and foot switches but no tacks yet :(

You never mentioned your weight and what size front wing you are using...

I'm 84 kg, on a Moses 633; I'm ok with a 9 meter liquid force solo, in ten knots, but my 6 meter flysurfer peak4 has about the same low-end and is easier to keep in the air if the wind drops out

Thought I would chime as I am on the same 1200cm Crazy Fly front wing (CFly Chill deck). Im 210pounds and in 8-12knots I can run a 10M SST Slingshot kite. Its a little underpowered in the lulls which is making me work my kite more.. Im now fully comfortable downlooping and currently working on toe side transitions, downwinding etc. I have to keep working on my transitions but Im super happy with my setup as Im gaining momentum/confidence with this gear. Cheers!

10-12 knots is 19m Ozone R1, Levitaz R5 for me. ~85kg. :) If it's a solid 12 knots, then move down to 15m.

Depends on the mood, temperature, and the location.

Some days it’s racefoil and powered foilkite, and some days it’s surf foil and one-strut or strutless LEI. It’s nice to have options to fit the occasion.

I can ride my 11m Boxer LEI and Moses 633 in as light wind as I can with my 18m Diablo and race foil (7-8 knots) at 75kg.

Modern one-strut LEI 11-12m kites are surprisingly good at low winds that used to only be possible with foilkites.

Learning to wingfoil has taught me a lot about how to pump even a tiny foil and pocket board up out of the water over multiple kite loops and power strokes, extending my low end significantly.

This is a very interesting question and I think skill level would play a massive role in kite/wing selection. I'm a new a foiling (about 32 sessions) - At 220lb I was always going out with my 12m Airrush Ultra with 10-12 knots on my 633 Moses and a T65 Moses Board. Now, actually last week, I was able to kite in 12 knots using a 9m Airrush Ultra. I think is because I can now generate a lot of power and I'm able to get on foil very quickly with the 633. What I do with it... well, I still don't know, the goal for me is to jump, so I'm thinking that eventually I will be taking the 12m kite to generate more boost (that is why I got into foiling in the first place, as at my weight not a lot fun at 12 knots in a twintip). For now, after mastering gybes, I'm working on foot changes.
