5mm Dyneema is ideal. I have over 100 sessions on this equivalent rope from Amazon which is also UHMWPE rope (but not the Dyneema brand). You can't beat getting 15 meters of it inexpensively.

I use Sk75 dyneema. 4mm with 4mm insert. I use a roller hook or infexion qr with roller. The runner fails after about a year of hard use. The actual runner section always looks good but the line fails at the spreader bar insertion. The rig I use has a loop with full length insert, a release pin goes through the loop at the back of the spreader. This is the critical wear point. If I ditched the pin and used two knots it would last longer.

Amsteel it's dyneema the trademark is Amsteel by Samson Ropes you can get it in marine supply stores. It's crazy strong.

Try to find something from climbing and hiking shops. For them it is lifesafing - so durability wise :thumb:

Agreed, got a bit (2m) of climbing rope from Decathlon and a steel ring, works like a charm, when the outer coating goes it's still very strong but I replace then. Only replaced this year after 3 years. Total cost like 10 euros.

I do not agree with climbing rope being better. Im a climber too.
They typically do not use dyneema in climbing ropes, sometimes in slings. Dyneema is really slick so it slides better giving less wear. There are dyneema ropes with a nylon sleeve for wear, but I prefer to use pure dyneema for rope harness as well. If you are breaking rope in 20 sessions something else is wrong. It last well over 100 sessions for me.

I just made a bar with Liros Depower line, that would probably be my choice. They even sell an outer shell that prevents wear separately.

I use 4mm Dyneema doubled (spliced) so you wear out the outer one first. Gives a visible clue of when the rope has worn too much and you can still ride back to shore on the inner rope when you completely destroy the outer one.

If you are not using a loop it might be helpful to use a grey outer and coloured inner to see the wear more easily. Sounds like the op needs to de burr the spreader, or perhaps more likely, change the slider to a roller or low friction ring? Don’t over tighten a replacement rope as this can greatly increase tension and therefore wear at the spreader bar insertion.

just change to a friction ring and your rope will last much more.

I've been using a nylon friction ring, made in a latch by a friend and replaced the dyneema rope for one with a kind of cover around. dyneema ropes are supposed to resist traction and do not like friction :)

This set up must have about 50 sessions now
