ok I finally understand why everyone has carbon masts

Postby edt » Mon Sep 26, 2022 5:28 pm

I was looking to get a pocket hydrofoil board but I have an aluminum mast and g10 wings. Is there a pocket board that has enough flotation for such a heavy mast? I can't use a sinker the water is so brown here if it is gone from my sight for a second it's gone forever.

I use a pocket board (15,8L) with 95cm aluminum mast without any problem.

You can also easily add floatability to your board through extra EVA foam on the deck, on nose, tail,...
I was using a wakeskate with a zeeko spitfire XXLW, and the whole thing was barely floating. It was never an issue until I hit the bottom, and the seaweed was such that the board never resurfaced. I had to criss-cross the area of my crash, trying to find my board. Lucky the deck pad was yellow, and I managed to find it eventually before it got dark, but I was already thinking about having to come back in the early morning at low tide to get my board. So yeah a bit of extra buoyancy is good!
