Does it make sense on a hydrofoil? Has anyone tried? I know we don't get to transonic speeds on our foils but I'm thinking about breaking up the bubbles after a breach

No it does not. The area rule is effective to reduce shock wave drag, a phenomenon that only starts in transonic flight regimes (Mach>0.6).

Ventilation is the creation of an air bubble along the airfoil's upper surface, causing flow separation and typically a catastrophic loss of lift.

You would need to tackle the creation of the air bubble, which is usually caused by mixing close to the water surface or by significant local flow speeds along the airfoil's upper surface, which cause the pressure to drop so much that the water boils and creates vapour pockets.

At the relatively low flow speeds we are talking about, Kuchemann carrots will probably only increase drag by increasing the cross section. They may also cause earlier flow separation.
