Sabfoil released Medusa Pro wings 699, 769, 869

Postby a99 » Mon Aug 28, 2023 11:15 am

Hi, just saw email info that Sabfoil released three Medusa PRO wings, maybe someone already tried for usual riding?

>>

We are happy to announce that the new Medusa PRO front wing line is out!
Designed in collaboration with Balz Müller and SAB top riders, it is a concentrate of speed and power with a twist on design.

Provided with superior acceleration and high top end speeds, these front wings feature incredible pop and thanks to the super strong T8 connection prove to be the ideal choice for Power Freestyle sessions and the execution of advanced aerial maneuvers.

These specs make them a must-have product also for all those who wish to Freeride and Freerace, cruising at maximum speed and stability with T8 fuselages.

We invite you to see them in action in our official trailer!

A COMMENT BY OUR TOP RIDERS

This is what some of our top riders think about the new Medusa PRO line!

Balz Müller

"The Medusa PRO is a small surface, all-around performance front wing. Optimized for arial tricks it offers a quick acceleration, great top speed and a huge takeoff pop! Due its solid M8 connection this wing is heavyduty and you can push as hard as you love to. Landings will be smooth with a great rebounce due his efficient profile and amazing stall speed! With the Medusa PRO we maximize control and stability and minimize unnecessary drag. Its versatility also makes this wing perfect for wave and freeride”

Nicolò Spanu

"I tried the WMP869. Already with 8/10 knots it has so much power, it accelerates well and thanks to its incredible speed I can jump so much higher! Great also for pumping, kind of cross between Red Devil and Medusa, I really think it is the perfect wing to do surf race at GWA"

https://stratus.campaign-image.eu/image ... h_quad.jpg
Joshua Pretorius

"The Medusa PRO is a game-changer! It's lightning-fast and has insane pop for freestyle moves. I couldn't believe the lift it generated, considering its size. And the carvability? Unmatched. If you want speed, freestyle tricks, impressive lift, and smooth carving, the Medusa PRO is an absolute must-have”

I have seen comments that some like 769 for kiting. But not much more than that. I am also interested about the kiting performance. How does it compare to 740, older design with less thickness? Can you breach these medusa pro wings without ventilation?

I just got back from La Ventana and got the 669. Unfortunately, I have to wait for the Columbia River to get warm enough to be able to test it out. I'm pretty excited for its potential. SABFoil has it rated as its fastest non-race specific foil. @taiguy got the 769 and may be able to give us some impressions after he returns to LV.

Haha you're right! Edited to add, out of the *non-race specific* foils. I just wanted to try a wing that would fit my T8 fuse. Plus, I can compare this directly with the Slingshot 657 since it is bolt compatible with the M8-M6 washer adapters. I'm pretty excited for the upcoming wind season. Lots of toys to test!

Such small wing sizes for a heavy T8 surf fuselage and M8 wing mount hardware

Nah, it's not so bad. It's like what, a lb of difference? More than made up for by my lightweight mast and board. My entire ready to foil travel pack weighs 36 lbs including the luggage. Even with additional weight, I'm still well under 40 lbs. If the wing is as amazing as I hope, I'll take the increased weight. In the meantime, I'll keep hoping that SABFoil eventually releases a carbon fuse. :) @grigorib - you can pick it up yourself this summer and see if it's as heavy as you think. :thumb:

SABFoil also released a Piuma line with fuse that uses M6 bolts for the mast connection. Thus, the fuse is reportedly thinner and lighter. But I'd rather have the peace of mind of using the M8 bolts.

EDIT: Just looked it up out of curiosity. The 703K surf fuse with M8 bolts is 870 grams. The 653K kite fuse with M6 bolts is 760 grams. 110 grams is 0.24 lbs. I don't see this as an issue.

I don’t hate surf fuselages. Huge wings needed more base and bigger bolts (I saw an M6 snapped on a wingfoil setup).
It was just really bothering me that kitefoil setups needed large fuselage for 683s/633/679 wings and it took 2-2.5 years for 695/718/800 to be released, yet there was nothing bigger (1000 wing was not comfortably kitefoilable, I tried) for kitefoil fuselage. All I wanted is to be able to fit my race, my free ride and my lightwind wing onto same fuselage (and thanks to Stringy for making the adapters).

I feel like wings up to 1400 cm² could be all mounted onto T6 system, including 633/679.

My 595mm fuselage for Moses kitefoil wings is 566g
The 647 kitefoil fuselage is 632g

There’s no point feeling sour about the past, it’s just funny how small wing attachment to large fuselage doesn’t look natural.

Maybe Moses should have chosen 900 wing hole spacing as a good standard to accommodate both kitefoil and wingfoil, but changing standards is even more pain.

And I love trying different wings so I won’t pass on a demo opportunity 😊
