Best micro board on the market

Postby Wolf of Ainsdale » Fri Jan 19, 2024 9:19 am

What's the best micro board for kitefoiling on the market? I see the naish hover board has almost doubled in price but they ve added some rocker this year.

Depends on what you are looking for exactly.
I have the microchip and for travel it is great BUT it has some drawbacks: eg it barely floats with my foil (kraken 100cm with 699) and no longer comes downwind quickly.

It also doesn’t have any bindings if you want to do jumps.

I would personally go with something with a bit more volume unless size is your only requirement.
There are now a bunch of other small boards because they are used for pumpfoiling although most are slightly bigger than the microchip.
(eg Sabfoil and Slingshot have small boards now)

Appletree 3.6 / 106cm.
I can highly recommend it for serious foiler, also options for full footstrap and very light. Soft touchdowns easy starts just perfect.

Only point, thye should come in bright neon colors by default. (rather than carbon black) and it is expensive....

Another good inexpensive option might be the new takoon pump board:
90cm/10L for 400 euro.

Yes! I have fond memories of the stoke for DIY boards back when kitefoil was taking off. Simple wood planks to complex works of art!

Granted, only a minority have the inclination to DIY, and it does take some knowledge/skill/experience to make one that’s light, strong, good for jumping, etc etc.

But the question of “best on the market” probably is more focused on performance instead of cost, and top of the line production boards are better than all but the best DIY I imagine.

Except

it is the rider. The proof is Toby. He is using ONE board for how many years now ;)

The "best" board is higly, and I mean it, higly subjective. Also,if the "best" board is really THE best, we would not have the next "best" next season.

Yeah just looking for opinions man. Thinking of buying a travel board for my kite foil set up to fit in a normal case and cant decide between naish micro hover (the latest one with a bit of rocker) or the slingshot v2. Not much in the price.

Same topic. viewtopic.php?f=196&t=2415655

Many slingshots (dwarfcraft) snap when pumping, I think they might hold up a little better kiting but it's something to watch for.
