Just started building my latest design of an 11m2 foilkite. Idea is to make a free ride / free race foil kite with a mid aspect ratio (6.3) for TT and hydrofoiling.

I am building on my experience with a 5m2 and now go for slightly more cells (49), again using straps a 3d seam in the LE and inner ribs.

Adapted the canopy a little to prevent tip collapses.

Let's see how this flies :!:

The moustache!
Really looking forward to that one Rein!

Had a all toys that fit in the car-kite weekend on fanö island.

First a light wind session on the directional and 11m and then testing the new 9m first time in the buggy with a few tacks and gybes.
The upwind capability and flying so far to the wind window makes tacks really easy in the buggy.

Built a plotter (viewtopic.php?f=107&p=1157505#p1157505) and drawn the patterns for a new 16.5 AR6.5 foil kite.

Nesting16.5KF.PNG
The new design has a new profile oriented towards more race-ish genes. Main features are a more round nose for better L/D at variant angles of attack, thicker profile for more Lift, new camber line a bit more agressive (2%Camber instead of 1.6 or something) and more forward camber.
The Thickness distribution is a bit orientated from a Sonic 3 profile but with different billow, different camber and camberline.

Other parameters of the kite are:

Area: 16.5 m²
AR 6.5
Span: 10,4 m
Proj. Area: 13,3 m²
Cells: 41
Cloth: Porcher Skytex 27 for the cloth and 32/40ghard coated nylon for the structure.

The thinking behind the design was a kite for me (70Kgs) to go out below ten knots on a surfboard and see how low I can go. Maybe later on a race ish hydrofoil.
The kite is quite arc shaped to have not a quick turning (because of size) but at least a tight loop.
The kite will be very light and follows the philosophy of my previous kites to go the least cell count feasible with 90% of the aerodynamic potential and let out as many d-ribs and parts as possible.

For turning also built a 75cm carbon bar for this kite with the cabrinha firebal QR, so I don´t have to pull in the steering lines in a tight loop.

Gonna be quite a monster for my 70 Kgs, it should be called "sailplane" above 12 knots I guess.

Agree, amazing :thumb:

Wuold never do this myself nowadays - in my younger days yes, just like we built surfboards and windsurfboards - but not now.

Impressed by your dedication and results :D

Yes , I agree Peter ...
Niklas,
Your schetch seem to show that Bridles A, B and C gather the same attachement point without speed system ... is it the case or a perspective illusion ? is it a depower kite ?

Happy New year to all.

Hi Peter, Hi Regis,
Thanks! Hehe yes it is a lot of joy and almost relaxing work coming home from work and doing a few seams on a new kite.

It is a standard mixer standard depower ABCD kite.

The bridle goes together at one point in the rendering as this is the only option in Surfplan hobby but for the bridle development I exported four different rows (ABCD) which differ of course in chord direction according to the mixer but also in spanwise direction so that the Z bridles pull more towards the tips.
When looking from below it is kind of a parabolic shape.
(overexaggerated picture see below)
Also the effect of steering lines and flying lines entering in different angles is accounted for that way a bit.
At least that's the thought behind that, if it really works because of that I can't say for sure but it works from experience in previous designs so I kept that aspect.
Happy new year too!
