Yes a few minutes usually, the goo has some cure time and will continue to smell (evaporate slightly) for a long time. Evaporation is quicker with higher temp like summer and Toluene is faster than Xylene.

That kite coating peeling looks similar to flysurfer PU coating peeling. The tips flap more so I guess that is why it wears there quicker. I notice where a rolled kite is folded it wears there too.

Has anybody ever heard of or tested Para-shield on kites ?

Awaiting answers from them on a few questions concerning kites...

´Para-Shield is the most effective UV protectant and sealant, ideal for SkyTec ripstop nylon, gelvenor and F111 ripstop. Restores and fills porous parachutes, maintains a like-new appearance that revitalizes and conditions. Para-Shield keeps colors looking new, repels water, dirt and dust, prevents soiling and - most importantly - stops UV damage caused by the sun.´

Follow up on parashield:

Hello, sorry for the delay it’s been a busy season for flying. Answers to your questions:

Hi,
Is the product recommended for inflatable and lei kites for kitsurfing ?
It works on all ripstop fabrics and will reduce the porosity guaranteed
How dos the pruduct react to water contact ?
Contact will not remove it however immersion can result in reduced performance
Can you specify what would be the weigh gain in gr of the dry product on a 10 sqare meter kite .
Maybe a few ounces. The 32 ounce bottle will dry out to less than ¼ of the weight.

Send me your address- ill send you a sample bottle so you can try it and give me feedback.

Regards

Dave

Pm me if you whant to do the testing

Hi,
Interested in doing a test as well to give a feedback with the other means I tried ; I give my address in PM.

Last week-end, I have done a preventive re-coating of my loved Pulsion after few 30 hours of use : a "hybrid" coating : nikwax on trailing edge (10 cm bandth width), same on the Leading Edge ; then to limit the weigh increase, I used the nanao-coating SealNGLide on the extrados; intrados with limited quantity of SealNGlide to allow for rapid drying of th inner of the kite if once wet ;
here the picture : on the right the LE and TE 10 cm width that were coated with Kikwax ; on the left, in the middle of the kite, SealNGlide.
Image

It is now drying and "curing", but I have already measured that the weight increase is not measurable (less than 10 grams on 1600 grams ) ... Great !

It was a lot of work (hours, cost) but I think the result should be great : Nikwax is more "watertight " to water with pressure when kite sits on water waiting for the next gust to come and relaunch, while SealNglide elsewhere is deperlant to let the overall cloth dray an light...

I remembered years ago i had success re-waterproofing my Gortex ski jacket using a simple wash in product.
Just put the jacket in the washing machine with the product, dry it and it worked really well.
So i thought i might try this with my old Ozone Chrono which really turned into a soggy mess when it hit the water.
I rang the tech guys at Nikwax for advice and they suggested to try their Polar Proof wash in product which is actually designed to
re-waterproof polar fleece, it might work best.
I bought a litre, about $60, used half a litre with 50 lites of water in an old bath tub i have outside, and soaked the kite in it.
I soaked it for about 30 minutes making sure the kite was soaked inside and out, bridals as well, then hung it on the line to dry.
I've, used the kite about 30 times now and it works really well with the water beading and running off straight away. and the best part is
when the kite hits the water it floats high and dry and relaunches much easier .
After washing the Chrono, there was some water left in the tub so i soaked my old 8m Reo as well and had success there too.
Most noticeable is how much faster it relaunches after a crash .
Worth a try.

From what I have seen of Nikwax products is they don't last long. Looking at the Amazon page for "Nikwax Polar Proof Waterproofing" https://www.amazon.com/Nikwax-Polar-Pro ... B07JWPDCWN it has "Maintains breathability" which is not what you want.

Yes but there's a difference between a coating for sealing air and a coating waterproofing.
My kite holds air well, i just needed to re-waterproof it, which this product does well.

Airtight is waterproof but not always the other way around. The main problem foil fabric suffers is porosity to air. It makes little sense your kite is airtight and needs waterproofing.

Small mistake, foilholio.
Water has lower viscozity than air and thats why it can leak through smaller holes than the air.
So should be just opposite.
”Waterproof is airtight, but not always the other way around.”

I agree with shadylady, that waterproof is important.

My Sonic 2 soaks water and the amount of water inside makes biggest problem during low wind relounch, not lack of the air inside.
