Thanks for your responses gentlemen. Yes, the kite collapses by folding together(clapping) with wingtips touching as if taking an open book and closing it. So, if I understand correctly, I should experiment by shortening the B line in comparison to the A line, which will decrease the camber of the kite?

Clapping hands is quite rare for bridled foil kites and makes me even more suspicious towards that kite. How can kite with that shape do it? It is weird. I guess next we will here someone asking what to do when wave kite bowties

I'd like to see the bridle configuration, canopy curve and tow point separation of that kite but because it is CA kite such thing is very difficult. Making B line row tighter may not help but hard to say what should be tried. Behavior may fall in the category "a property, not a fault".

I agree that this kite folding together the way it has is odd indeed. Hope I can find a solution.

so if clapping instability, no, IMO you should do the opposite : increase camber = shorten A and/or lengthern B ( increase camber). Comparing to other foilkite is weird since ... there is no other model of so small double skin foilkite with this wave requirement and high depower in high winds. This is a new concept with single behavior quite out of our standard reactions.

Ok Regis thanks for the clarification. I will try that and report back with my observations.

Kite type of Wave is very simple and easy. If someone wants to try to make a foil kite that kind of kite has biggest chance for success, even for beginner.

Drawback of design is of course low performance but hf's have changed requirements quite a lot because foil itself has so low drag. In high winds any kite can pull enough, at least if racing or boosting high are not aspired.

Finally got to try out my CA Wave 6.5m yesterday in strong, punchy winds. I weigh 110 kg and ride a strapless surf foil. This kite was collapsing alot during my session and I was wondering if my line attachment setting choice was contributing to this? See pic below. Front line attachment on left, steering line attachment on right. Any advice on how to tune this kite to not collapse? Thx!!

Define strong and punchy. Perhaps the kite was too big for the wind, and you flew it at max depower?

I’m not clear if you need to do anything here. I attach the lines on mine (4.5 and 8.5) the same. I’ve noticed the behavior you mention, but it was not a big deal, and when it happened the wind was REALLY gusty.

same for me with the 3m

Mayby you simply have too much depower length? The wave depowers through a change in shape so you might give it too much front lines release in strong gusty conditions?
