It is amazing how we sometimes can ride in 6 knots of wind (measured at 10 m height), and other times even 8 knots does not work.

"Cheese Wind" as I call it, micro bubbles/turbulence so small it can not be felt as gusty wind, it is just "powerless" wind, for the given wind strength

This is why, apart from measuring on the beach which sometimes gives an ok reading, at other spots rubbish, there are SO many different numbers for low end posted, which can not be compared.

But even if wind has same speed at kite height and same density, the pull is not always the same because of micro turbulence is my claim.

Amazing how low you can go Regis :thumb:

Fully agree with you. I try to avoiid giving absolute number for this reason. Only comparative numbers can be useful (same rider, same wind scale to compare kites for example)
"Cheesy wind", i like it :-)

Sucker wind

All of us who have been pushing the low end possible know those type winds very well
Whatever you try to do
Loop the kite
Sine the kite
The kite dives into a big nothing
The kite might as well be made out of a fish net

Hi,
Today a high end ride: 11 knots average and 14 knots recorded on a official wind meter.

I was with 30 m lines and medium/flat camber knot setting. I had a looot of power but it went well, in all riding direction , with a 1200cm2 foil.

There was some rider heavier that me with 11m2 kites and short lines.

Wind was irregular and i would have prefered less line lenght, but jumps, upwind angles and "my back touching water" went great during ... 3h30 non-stop... so not that physical , nor dangerous. IMO, 2 or 3 more knots would remain safe but really not comportable with my 60 kg.

So quite great high end for people liking be charged by the kite.

One great very light session , not extreme (except at the start of the video, approaching the jetski), alone on the water despite August in south of France,Almanarre ) ;
who said light winds are not fun ?  Once powered, I like putting the hydrofoil wing out of the water , or the back on the water :P

This kite is really great for those quite stable winds, (now my prefered over the 15m and 12m ) if you like power in light winds
