It is amazing how we sometimes can ride in 6 knots of wind (measured at 10 m height), and other times even 8 knots does not work.

"Cheese Wind" as I call it, micro bubbles/turbulence so small it can not be felt as gusty wind, it is just "powerless" wind, for the given wind strength

This is why, apart from measuring on the beach which sometimes gives an ok reading, at other spots rubbish, there are SO many different numbers for low end posted, which can not be compared.

But even if wind has same speed at kite height and same density, the pull is not always the same because of micro turbulence is my claim.

Amazing how low you can go Regis :thumb:

Fully agree with you. I try to avoiid giving absolute number for this reason. Only comparative numbers can be useful (same rider, same wind scale to compare kites for example)
"Cheesy wind", i like it :-)

An other name i like to use
Sucker wind

All of us who have been pushing the low end possible know those type winds very well
Whatever you try to do
Loop the kite
Sine the kite
The kite dives into a big nothing
The kite might as well be made out of a fish net

Hi,
Today a high end ride: 11 knots average and 14 knots recorded on a official wind meter.

I was with 30 m lines and medium/flat camber knot setting. I had a looot of power but it went well, in all riding direction , with a 1200cm2 foil.

There was some rider heavier that me with 11m2 kites and short lines.

Wind was irregular and i would have prefered less line lenght, but jumps, upwind angles and "my back touching water" went great during ... 3h30 non-stop... so not that physical , nor dangerous. IMO, 2 or 3 more knots would remain safe but really not comportable with my 60 kg.

So quite great high end for people liking be charged by the kite.

One great very light session , not extreme (except at the start of the video, approaching the jetski), alone on the water despite August in south of France,Almanarre ) ;
who said light winds are not fun ?  Once powered, I like putting the hydrofoil wing out of the water , or the back on the water :P

This kite is really great for those quite stable winds, (now my prefered over the 15m and 12m ) if you like power in light winds

Does anyone have any feedback on the low wind capabilities of the Pulsion 18 m for a 100K person? I owned and just sold a 13M Peak which I had good luck with utilizing the largest Slingshot foil wing, the Infinity 99 which is just a little less than 2400 cm. The Peak flew well in low winds but does not seem to have much of a power spike during the water start. I was mowing the lawn around 9knots, and I am hoping the 18M Pulsion that I am getting later this week will let me ride in a little less.

It stays in the air „forever“ and should give you enough power out of the loop to get you going!

So are you saying that a kite loop is the method by which the Pulsion will create the most power? I have gotten in a habit with the Peak to send it in the opposite direction in which I am heading and then send it the other way to create the longest time possible.

A lot of times when I am riding, I would kite loop to keep the power up but would have to manually pull the steering line or otherwise risk the wingtip hitting the water. I am guessing this may be true also.

The 18m Pusion will let you waterstart appr. 2 knots earlier. I need to loop in the direction I want to go. I am often not very lucky with loops in the opposite direction, because it takes too long until the Pulsion 18 redirects in the correct direction, at least in the lowest winds (and in a little more than lowest wind I don't need to loop at all, but I am not as heavy as you). I weight 82 kg and need 4 or 5 knots with a 1200 cm2 wing. Peak 13 gets me going in 6 or 7 knots, it turns better and I also have more luck in looping in the opposite direction.

The 18 m Pulsion will let you water start APPR. 2 knots earlier. I need to loop in the direction I want to go. Tom
That's what I was hoping for because here in Florida we get a lot of sea breeze days that are 7-9 where I fall just a little short with the Peak. Tom, since you have both kites, does the Pulsion have much lift compared to the Peak which to me has very little lift? Have you spent much time trying different line lengths? Any advice to someone coming off of the Peak going to the Pulsion?
