it looked like his hand was pulling on the far end of bar when he crashed..
(it appears he steered kite into water)

Not to get all forensic but it looks like he goes down directly after trying to unspin the bar one handed and the rear lines go slack just before the ditch. The other two instances of the kite near inverting are slack rear line moments.

Whatever, It is what it is. A 5 min vid where the kite is in the water for 3. Promo at its best.

The peak need full attention. I don't know if I would go out with the camera in one hand with a peak.

It probably wouldn't had happen without the camera.

In skydiving we used to say that as soon as you wear a camera, you do more stupid thing, more accidents. I think it's valid for kitesurfing as well.

Today I did the same.. 20kts, nicely powered on the 4m.. having fun after a winter break.. a bit rusty.. spinning the Peak a few times and throw the bar to un-spin and grab and pull.. the damned wrong side..
Peak in the water.. quickly grabbing the steering lines and reverse launch... et voila; airborne.. and in the drink again because the bar was still reversed.. repeat; but now I put it back on the water for hot launch.. over sheet, turn the bar and launch.
In the upper wind range of the Peak it is easy to relaunch.
It was on my local gusty flat water spot.. only doable with Peak’s.
Btw better unspin the Peak instead of the bar.. rear line tension disappear when you let the bar go..

Yep, they are so easy to loop back the other way.

It's better to keep a hand on the bar with a peak, rather than unspin by letting go of the bar, that way you don't get disoriented and drive the kite into the water. I always unspin the bar hand over hand.
