Shortening of steering lines. I have heard that some find that the Peak 4 performs better with shortened steering lines. Is this just for light wind? By how much? I suppose that it makes sense that it would depend on the size og the kite. And what overall line lenght do you guys use per size?
Personal liking only.
One can not say it "performs better" with shortened steering lines, make no sense to make such a statement.
But some, like me, like to fly the kite at its sweetspot when sheeted out quite a lot, so when carving or riding waves, you can lean forward into the turns without having to bend your arm towards you (NOT good), and without the kite flapping.
Of course, in light wind you have to sheet the bar even further out in order to start, but this goes for all kites - so just the opposite direction.
Being able to pull the bar and put the kite in every desired position is also gold for me - besides for the fun "pinwheeling" you can make for fun, and a surprise for most other riders.
So with the standard bar, the first thing I did was to move the rearlines to the most inner knots at the bars (or make new knots? Cant remember).
I use 21 m lines with 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 m2, longer doesnt give you anything IMO, and shorter reduces the handling area.
But I know some use a lot shorter lines, and like it.
Only in the 8 m2, I always use 27-28 m lines, as shorter simply doesnt work IMO, and the 6 will start almost at the same time with shorter lines so makes no sense.
For average weights that is
At least my experiences.
