ultimate 2-kite superlight travel quiver

9m Speed5 (already got that) and 15m Soul (tempted to get that). That should cover me from about 13-30 knots, right? (and pack into the corner of a suitcase.) 200 lbs, twintip.

Basically I want someone to tell me to buy a 15m Soul.

Love my Soul 15m. I’ve hit 20m jumps on my Woo, can hold the kite down fairly comfortable at 25kts(I’m 185lbs) and turns really fast for a 15m foil. My only complaint is that now that I hydrofoil a lot, it’s a little too big for me. These Souls produce a lot of power and you’ll be surprised. My current quiver is a 8m and 25m Soul and that covers everything.

15m Slingshot Phantom (Elf) is on sale for $999 if anyone’s looking for an affordable large wing

Completely different kites. Go with the Soul.

$2650 for 15m Soul vs. $999 for 15m Phantom
Both would do in lightwind, both would serve for years. Both will be rarely ridden. The phantom being 60-70% off is priced at what foils should cost.

Competition is what we all need

I agree competition is fantastic. It’s what has really driven the performance and technology in foil kites the last couple years but that Phantom is kinda shit. Huge, heavy, over complicated bridal. Bad performance and marginal relaunch. If you wanna go the cheap route, then go Panish. If you want a fantastic foil, with YEARS of experience behind its design with a fantastic relaunch and ease of use, go Soul. If it’s a shit kite, it could be free and that wouldn’t make it better.

Last I heard Phantom is an Elf kite, which kinda rocked quite some in past years and boys and girls won some competitions on Elfs. It got on crazy sale just recently probably because competition in race gear is stronger than slingshot can afford.

Any foil, especially HA foils deliver questionable relauch and complicated bridle.

Pansh would be good to start fire with, but shit doesn’t burn well.

I agree that Soul is more freeride model, but 15m is not exactly a freestyle size.

I use my 15m Soul for just about anything on my twintip. I’ve used it under from 10kts to 25kts and have recorded my highest jump on the 15m (just under 20 meters). You CAN have high aspect and good relaunch, look st the Sonics and R1s. I’ve never flown a phantom or even seen one out in the wild but I am curious about it. The general consensus when they were first released a couple years ago were too heavy for light winds and too much drag for race. Hard relaunch and flying and within a couple months, absolutely nothing. Also if I remember correctly, even their videos were giving bad info about foil usage.

I think the more foils out on the market the better but I can’t sit by while someone is giving bad advice on spending a grand. Plenty of choices out there at that price level in the used market that would be better in every aspect. I agree out of the box, Pansh is kind of a gamble, but I’d still deal with one of them because you can tune and tinker it to make it a decent performer. With the Phantom it’s like the old saying, you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still just a pig.

Hi Gyre,
yes you may buy that 15 m Soul to fit together with your 9 m Speed5, tried both and will work fine. :D

Foils are great as travel quiver as they have both, wide windrange and being light, additionally no Need of a pump or the Risk to have damaged bladder, etc.

For myself as ultimative light and wide range I would calculate one Sonic2 6 m² or a Peak4 in 3 and 8 m² both will have around 1,7 kg so together with a foil and all stuff would be possible to stay within 10 kg for a 7-33 knt range … so if I will be succesful with a two part strut construction it would be even hand luggage compatible

@grigorib:
Also heard a view things about Slingshot/Phantom (Elf kite canopy, great construction for experienced guys going for full race only).
I think if you are well experienced and enthusiastic to set up bridles by your own, not by attatching the 4 cook proofed bar lines attatchments, but by finding a good trimm by mm for every of the around 80 attatchment points on the Elf canopy … this kite could be a just great project for you. If you are even a bit more masochistic, also a pansh kite could be a good choice. Knowing this first hand, as I have done this myself with first available kites 20 years ago and also know very competent friends from competition used Elf …

But if you are a normal average kiter, who just want to kite to have fun, you better go for a Soul or something similar, which can be also cheaper as a used Speed4 or 5. But this is not what this Topic was About, by the way. :naughty:

Why not go with a 12m soul? I've flown a lot of the different pansh kites and own 3 of them, flown several types of ozone, hq, flysurfer kites, haven't demoed the soul but watched it. I'm pretty sure the soul is the most capable foil kite in terms of good handling in gusty conditions just from watching my friend fly it. My reasoning with the 12m over the 15m soul is that if it's super light and you are on vacation there's going to be something else you can do like touristy stuff. If you go with a 9m and 15m yeah you will have a huge wind range but you might be uncomfortable when it's right at a medium wind speed, which is some of the most fun conditions for kiting, it's right at the wind speed you can do any trick you like but not so much you will hurt yourself. Something like $2k for a soul vs $300-$500 for a pansh or $1000 for a used kite, I would probably go with the Soul. My next kite purchase is probably the 12m Soul. If the wind is steady then the pansh aurora 2 is a nice choice the problem is how are you going to promise the wind will be steady? I have tried the mods found on the various forums and haven't found them to help. You know how it is the mod promises incredibly performance and everyone swears up and down about how amazing it is, you try it and all that happens is that kite immediately tacos and has no power.
