It all depends on how you pack down. If you are careless it's a half hour of spaghetti. If you are careful with the packdown keep the lines inside the kite properly roll it up carefully, then it's a little bit faster than a tube because there's no pumping.

That is a big factor. There are plenty of ways a foil launch can go wrong and chew time. There are a few narrow paths to success.

Unfortunately not everyone has time to take. 30min sessions are a thing.

Believe what you want. I honestly have no reason to lie, I gave a range. 1 to 2 mins is quite reasonable given the best technique. It's doubtful you have seen or know what that technique is.

Foilholio, the depth of your knowledge is always so impressive. We are all sitting anxiously on the edges of our seats hoping that you'll enlighten the less talented and less intelligent masses with details of the SECRET technique.

lol

It involves holding hands, chants and some time travel. High level stuff, Columbia special required.

I have described it before. Personally waiting for the next Horgio vid has me on my seat edge. Is his launch similar to mine? I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Mr. HOLY -O

RAM airs when packing them up are rolled THEN folded in 2 or 3 to fit in the bag

When you put your kite on the sand beach it is folded

You then unfold it and unroll it flat on the sand

Tubes have to be pumped fully before it is launched

That's why the ram airs have to be fully filled up to make the time to set up count fairly between the two type kites

Sure Tubes need to be pumped....tall pump 2 ways about 80 seconds for a 17 sqm 5 struts at 8 PSI...and once it launches you can go straight into the water

Sure closed cell Rams don't need to be pumped on the beach ....but once it launches " their pumping starts " in the air....18 sqm takes more time than a 12
When the "flappy shirt sleeves" wingtips stop flapping = fully inflated

Both examples with lines already on of course
The times to set-up from time zero and be riding in the water will be real close if you have had a lot of practice with both type kites

Hey Foilholio i bet you microwave your Pop-Tarts !!
I suggest you loosen up your schedule

Yea, Yea. Foil holy-o is a besserwisser, but we love him for it. And aren't we all at one time or another?

Totally agree about over stressing about time. Just chill.

Today I rigged and solo launched my 7 m Hyperlink. Wind dies. Didn't try to go out. Solo land it with brake line. detach lines, roll up kite and walk back to the car to get the 9. Unroll 9. Set it up. Attach lines. Then just backed up. ( kite is not pre inflated). Go out.
If I had had Lei, I would have been forced to walk 300m up the beach to the school area to get help launching by some newbie. Would have had to hunt for landing and relaunch help. Would have taken a lot more time.

I can add. Great session in 10-13 knots on a 9m Hyperlink.

OK my turn....i rig a 12 and the wind dies....i pack it down quick with lines on...i go to my car 35 meters away and get a 17 with lines on and do a quick set-up
Easy to self launch ( strategically positioned sandbag ) and even easier to self land ( walk up the lines )
Wasted no valuable time
I can add. Great session also in 10-13 knots with North Nugget TT Quad in some sweet 3 foot waves

Well done TomW
Glad you had a blast
Chill time

Those videos indicate that it is possible to launch in 1-2 minutes with advanced practice/knowledge/skill, which is encouraging
Hi RadDrDuke,
yes 1 minute for sure will be stress, but I think the topic already answered your question, that there is no need to be worried that it will take more time with a foil than with a lei, even not in the mean with all beginners. It is just about disciplin when folding together; always keep slight line tension, when you arm and disarm and control bar position, never let it flip into the bridle: Here I found an old explanation, which is pretty much all the same for land spot starts:

That sounds like an invitation for a horst sergio setup video.
Under 6o easy.
yes could be understood as asking for it, but that's not the way I create videos, it is more about ocasionaly having the Wizmount on and filming what happens with not too much effort. As the extra long mount disturbs a bit, I just put it on if I am interested myself to see and show a new trick or a new kite model ...
