Are foil kites more heat resistant than LEI?

Postby noahsw » Sat Mar 23, 2019 5:10 pm

They say to never leave a LEI in a hot car because the bladder seals will melt. I'm not an expert on foil kite internals so I was curious if the same rule applied.

Thanks!

Different set of problems. I would avoid excessive heat.

Yes way more heat resistant. No issue leaving them in cars.

Foil kites are very durable and reliable. No burst bladders or slow leaks. No pump :-)

I have a friend instructor who leaves his foil kites in the van all year long in hot spanish weather, some kites are 10+ years old and all of them fly perfectly. I also leave my foils in the roof box, while my LEI comes home with me.

The biggest issue with foil kites is ageing (shrinking) of the bridle. My concern is that heat accelerates this. Arent the lines heated and prestretched? Paraglider manufacturers generally recommend to avoid heat.

They are also trees resistant

And poles, and a lot of other hard stuff :naughty:

The only thing they are not that resistant is a depreciation in value. And megaliters of water inside in some awkward time.
