Anyone have some water time yet with their new HL v2? I'm probably getting in the water with my recently ordered on closeout new 12m V1 this week to see how my first foil kite flies. I'm hoping to sell my 9 and 14 LEI tomorrow and get a new V2 in a smaller size..thinking a 5m.

I've had a V1 UL 9m for a year and it has been used for 85,% of my sessions. Over 100 sessions. Then I have a Hyperlink 7m as smallest. The 9 m replaced my 12 and 9m Lei. 12 to 5m is big gap. You might've get away with 12-7. But I've found 9m to be magic size in wind here.
9-7 covers 10 to 23 knots Wind.
Under 10m I'm using Sonic2 13m, but looking to replace it with Hyperlink V2 13m if reviews are positive.

Iā€™m riding V1 5 7 and 9 and foil kites generally since 2003. Big range on these kites and I think 12 -5 is doable. In my biggest gap I did FS speed 1 17m stepping down to 7. I think 7-9 is a much better quiver than 5-12.

5 is a sweet and super fun kite.

7 is my most used kite of all (we have wind) and I enjoy using it in the lower and upper end of its range.

As the wind gets to the point a smaller kite is needed I appreciate a more tame kite like single strut or even single skin.

I think it depends on your local " wind bands" . What time mean by this is for example in my area if we have light wind, it's 4-5 m/s with lulls. It's not going to gust to 6ms. Then it's 6-7 Ms solid. Then we have 8-10 Ms with wind more variable. Like 7 lulls to 12 gust, Then 10+ and it's very variable.
It's these 4 " types " of wind that requires diff size. I use the 9 in the middle 2 " bands" , the 13 Sonic 2 in the light and the 7m in the top band, sometimes in 7-12ms.
So you really need to consider those patterns. It takes years to figure it out. Unless you are blessed with trade or thermal winds.

I know this is a V2 forum. But I took my V1 12m out for the first time today. First ever foil kite. OK fellas, your secret is out. I'm telling everyone. These kites are CRAZY. 12m in 12 to 19 mph winds and the boosting and hang time is ridiculous. I'm selling the rest of my LEI kites. I already ordered a closeout V1 7m at a great price to fill out my quiver.

I have to say, landing the kite without someone on the beach sucks. I need a better way. It was a freakin disaster. Taco, invert, hot launch, you name it and it happened to me. Had a great session until landing the kite ruined it.

Carmelhill,
I can sympathise. Last year I bought a HL 9m UL. Was blown away by the difference ( on Hydrofoil). It replaced my 12and 9 North Monos, which have sitting unused since then.
Then got a HL 7m for the up to 22knots days.

My spots are fairly clean, clear and depopulated, mostly sand. So when alone in more wind than really light wind, I put kite on its tip and release to the leash. It's no big deal. Just make sure the front line leash is on the line closest to the ground then the upward tip flags down wind. Walk fast sideways to get kite directly down wind.
