6m Soul as step down from 10m?

Postby tkaraszewski » Tue May 07, 2019 5:33 pm

I have a 10m Soul I ride with a hydrofoil in light winds. It works well for me from about 10 knots up to around 20, at which point I feel overpowered. I'm considering adding a 6m Soul as a smaller foil kite (all my other smaller kites are inflatables), and while it seems like it should work fine, it seems like a big gap. I assume the bottom end of the 6m should be around 15 knots, maybe even slightly lower, and it should be good up to about 30 knots, which would give me 10-30 knot coverage in just two kites, with enough overlap that I don't feel like I need to push the very top end of one or the very bottom end of the other in the intermediate range.

What do you guys think as a 6/10m Soul two-kite quiver? I also have a variety of inflatable kites to play with, but might take just the Souls while traveling.

12m and 8m Souls overlapped for me, they have an amazing bottom end.

While I’ve not flown a 6 soul, 6-10 lotus was a fine combo and the 6 lotus was super fun on foil. May be a handful if you also want it for twin tip in high winds.

I do exactly that for travelling 10 & 6m Soul (one bar with 14m lines + 7m extensions), however back home I still prefer The SST's when it gets 15 plus knots and usual gusty wet weather!
I really like the Souls on 14m lines but need the extra 7m sub 10 knot to get the 10m flying.

Thanks guys. This looks like a reasonable travel combination.

If I didn’t already have the 8m Soul(which I absolutely love), I’d be doing a 6m/10m travel quiver. For hydrofoil I prefer the 6m, twin tip 8m. They really act like two different kites. The 6m yo me feels more aimed at HF. The loops aren’t as powerful and it drifts extremely well. In the almost decade of flying foil kites, I’ve never had a quiver of sizes this close but with these kites I’m not complaining.

i agree with above.
i have a 6m, 8, and 12m soul..
i'm starting to love the 6m(and use it almost exclusively) for foiling....and 12m is the most used kite i own (and i use it primarily with TT...but i'm learning to appreciate that grunt on a foil too)
(the 8m has also been used as a TT kite)

a 6m and a 12m alone is sufficient for me.

Thank You, I just this month purchased my first ever foil kite... a 12m Soul for very light foilboard conditions. This after almost 4 years on Cloud strutless kites foiling. It's a huge change. Trying to get used to the power, and the slower turns. Already had a good swim

Off topic, but I have Hyperlink 9 UL, that starts at 10 knots on Hf. Then a 7m Hyperlink. There's good overlapping. I'd not want to take 7m Hyperlink in over 25knots. 20 m lines on both.
But I think if I took off my 5m extensions and used 15m lines I'd get a bit more top end out of the 7m. Not tried it.
