The idea to have a bag is interesting. I ordered some 64g ripstop to make a bag.
How big should it be for a 12-13 foil kite?
I have a low volume 110cm board and did the sit on it trick the other day when I dropped my Sonic 2 13m and had to drift in. It sinks really low in the water...and I have fullsuit with 50n flotation vest. It's really difficult to float on it.
But if you can't, then it's nearly impossible to windup bar and not lose the board. Need to figure out the leash to board thing too.

imo, no need to re-invent the wheel with a bag.
search "dry sack" (commonly used in kayaking..and is relatively cheap, waterproof and lightweight)
...also some kites come with lightweight compressions bags (concept air provides them)
re: sitting on board..
is pretty much same as with a low volume surfboard..just climb on cowboy style and find that spot where it balances(is more "sitting" in the water that floating)

You should be able to reverse launch a foil kite in as low as 2-5 knots as long as you are able to push hard against the water. Maybe you have a weird foil kite?
2 knots?

Don't open the velcro openings if they are under the water. This will prevent the air from coming out, water will get in and it takes ages until the air gets out of the Soul through the sewing. Only chance for me is putting my arm deep in the valves to open them manually and get the air out. The opening in the tips will be useless as thís part is the first while rolling the kite.
Self rescue for a 12m Soul is ok, but I find a self rescue with a 21m Soul Monster is really difficult.

Some people use a laundry mesh bag for self rescue. They pack down very small and can be stuffed into your wetsuit (chest area).
Here's one from Walmart for $4.70

The other variable in this is the point in the kite-in-water crash where your board might be a few meters from you and you need to swim to it and secure. Or...You also might have wasted some valuable board drifting minutes trying to relaunch the kite. In my first 12m Soul swim & rescue the board was long gone so the roll-up process was a bit more complex. This was after 15 minutes of trying unsuccessfully to relaunch in light winds.

I will give that laundry bag idea a try. Thanks.
As to relaunching below 5knots in deep water. I personally can relaunch in wind I would describe as the kite will not fly in. The kite will relaunch a bit off the water then crash down, because it won't fly. Having the board does not help relaunching for wind like that. You need to swim ,pull on lines and have good timing to make it work. There is little point because the kite won't fly, except the techniques used are worth while for when it will.

Next question, should you rinse the inside with fresh water afterwards?
Thanks

No.
You are more likely to get mildew with fresh water....wet salty kites seem to survive ok
