An old trick, not used it for years, is to hammer in a length of rebar and put a pool noodle around it. You can then back a foil down to it and let it tacko around it. Not really necessary but if you want some weird looks it could be worth a laugh!

No, but that spot looks fantastic! Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn.

I worked in Berlin when the wall was still up. Templof , was the airfield in the American sector and so I probably know enough about the site. But I would be grateful if anybody could tell me about the chances of being able to access it on a city break for a few days as a visitor (not the Met I can sort that). It would be nice to go back and see the changes.

Any obstacle without sharp edges will work (also the rebar and a pool noodle Herman was mentioning). Cars usually don't have sharp edges otherwise they wouldn't be admitted on public streets. You lower the kite by backstalling it down to about one meter above the ground, and position it in front of the obstacle in the middle of the kite (Soul is difficult to control while backstalling, this needs some practice). Then you walk towards the obstacle until the kite wraps around it, one half of the wing to the right, the other half to the left.

Setting up and launching from the water is easy. Landing and packing up is easy too but the kite will get wet. Hard surfaces will damage the kite.

Just don't pack the kite on concrete - you'll get tiny through holes very quick

If available a smooth or padded vertical sign or post could be used in the middle of the kite behind it.
