Rolling vs Concertina folding Soul

Postby seglarn98 » Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:43 pm

Hi!

Just got my 10 m soul, excited to go out and try it!

I’ve found some info online saying that the leading edge support things deform if you keep the kite rolled for a long time.

Is that true and how quickly does it happen?

They are pretty flexible and so far i haven't seen any deformed ones, just roll the kite and don't worry about it.

Awesome, then I don’t need to worry or spend unnecessary time folding then:)

Just, when you re going to store for a long time, instead of rolling just fold the kite, as you would do with am inflatable.

The hard thing is always deciding what is a long time or not, but I will fold when I know it’s a likely break of more than two weeks I guess:)

Our Flysurfer rigid foils at the leading edge is super elastic. There is no problem at all.
On top, our rigid foils are replaceable, but I don't know a single case at our kites that that was necessary.
Some brands use less elastic rigid foils and than if you role it up too tight, it can be deformed. But not at the Flysurfer SOUL.
Here a Video where I show it at our Paraglider, that use the same material:

Nice video Armin. It is pretty cool how kite innovations are finding a place in paragliders. I remember you talking a long time ago how you started with paraglider designs for kites and quickly found they weren't good enough. I am sure trade secrets about design are of a high priority to remain secrets but some videos of you going in depth about aspects of kite/parafoil design would be very valuable.
