how to adjust flysurfer force control rear line length !

Postby kiter4fun123 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:27 pm

Hello,
I just tested the force control bar with my soul 8.
And the out of the bag settings for rear vs front line length ratio is not even close to correct.

Rear lines are around 2 cm longer than the front lines (full power, bar sheeted in)
To my surprise, I can't shorten the rear lines!
There're there knots accessible if you "click out" the bar ends.
I'm trying to figure out how I can shorten these lines (I would need around 4 cm shorter rear lines to get some decent power out of my soul kites)
As you can see in the picture below there's no space for more knots.
Arrow 1 and 2. (I did the second knot just in front of the larks head but it doesn't work)
and the protective plastic is sewed into the line so I can't just "pull down" the rear lines. (arrow 3)
I guess I could try to undo the three knots on the rear line, pass the plastic
adjuster piece through but I hope there's an easier way?!

Sorry I don't know the bar but, if you can't find a bar trim solution, you could add a couple of suitable wear pigs to the front lines. Just talking generally for any newbie looking in as I expect you already knew that.

@Herman:
Better don't put extra pigtails to foil kite connectors as they are likely to cause tangeling specific on foil kites.

Have you tested if the kite flys well for you? Don't give anything on the measured line length. Yes they should be equal but depending on model 2 cm more or less can be the optimum.
If you want to shorten the easiest way I see is to carefully cut away the plastic and install another knot or change their position.

Sorry, but IMHO you have gone into the trap, actually I would no more recommend any of the FS bars for FS kites and the force control / old duotone / north mix up is for sure the worst ever, just have seen it on the beach from distance and did not even want to touch it. :(
And they also already had a call back for the force bar:

15 - 10 years ago FS bars had also some issues, but have been a pretty well made product to fit the demands of their kites. Today they are not even good enough to fit for tube kite demands and price especially for the force is silly. Also KiteAttitude is not perfect, but at least at price to value it makes more sense to me. Since 10 years I haven't used a single FS bar in orginal setup.

Horst Sergio is perfectly correct to point out that it is better to keep your rig simple and clean, particularly at the top end for bridled foil kites.
Personally I like 20mm +/- 5m difference between front and back but, the other way round to your bar, as it makes the line check easier imho. With the front lines slightly longer you can inspect the backlines under load while the fronts have a little sag, then load the chicken loop to inspect the front lines. Matching side to side is critical but a slight difference front to back will be lost in trimming and sheeting. ( It also helps that I adjust and modify all my kite pigtails to my bar setting and sheeting range requirements. )

if want to check lines side to side you should use a pulley or at least something like a screwdriver to act like one. Checking by sag or other visual like methods are quite inaccurate, you also need tension on them to gauge the true length.

Hi, I managed to shorten by around 2-3cm by adding an extra knot.
Hopefully, the front lines will stretch after a couple of hours relative to the rear line due to heavy load.
Otherwise, I'll have to remove some plastic to get some more centimeters...

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that the bar was shipped with such a conservative line setup on the UPPER knot.
It would have been perfectly fine on the LOWER knot, then I would have been able to easily adjust the line lengths
to a more experienced riding style without using any customization toolkit.
(I wonder if this is standard setup or if I just had a bad bar sample setup)

If it’s a brand new bar, flysurfer purposely ships them with the steering lines a little longer to correct for line shrinkage. Put about 10 hours or so on the bar and recheck. You’ll see it lines up better.
