Hello, I bought a ozone bar for my foil kites, it a few years old and has a very short depower.
Would it be wise to increase the line length on the depower?
I have race kites in 9m and 15m.i know I would have to lengthen the steering lines .

yes

You can make it as long as you are comfortable with. The limit is your capability for grabbing the bar again after letting it go, without crashing the kite or yourself in case the bar is out of reach

Also don't forget to extend the flagout bungee.

I'm building a bar for old Chrono and R1 kites so I and have questions:

1. What is the length of the Ozone Foil Race Bar safety line?
See attached photo of a 2015 Ozone Foil Race Bar, similar to the current V4 Bar.

2. This safety length looks short.
Is it long enough to fully flag-out all size Chronos (up to 18m) and R1s (19m)?

3. What's your opinion on the "Foil Brake Handle"?
Besides landing in light winds is it useful?

4. What's your opinion on the 2:1 depower?
Do you find that that fine of tuning useful for an R1?
Would a 1:1 clamcleat work good enough?

? Length is not the flag out length. Flying line is pulled through the red stopper ball. The rig may have a stopper on the flying line to stop the bar going all the way to the bridle. A tapered insert in the flying line can be used as a jammer for a flying line stopper ball. You need spliced flying lines (as opposed to sleeved & stitched loops ) to be compatable with the holes in most of the chicken loops I have seen.

Can't be any more specific as I don't have this type of bar!!

If you want to halve the bar throw and have a very tube kite bar feel try Jackos mixer on the kite.

Thanks Herman, makes sense. Could not tell from the photo. I’ll make the mini-5th on the lines 6m, more than half the kite span...

Thanks Foilholio, not for these kites. For that Genesis kite yes. I wrote “2:1 depower” but I should have said 2:1 trim, or 1:2 trim

Yes R1 maybe not. As Jacko has stated bar throw relates to cord length or I would say more average cord length. R1 being high AR has a short cord, and so short throw.

Herman is correct about the flagging line. I would also add you don't need a stopper higher up. How often do you realistically release a kite and then it's a priority to relaunch it?

As nobody has addressed your questions 3&4 I will give you my opinion but have in mind that I have not flown the R1 or Chrono......

3. If it is just water use I would use balls rather than a handle. If land use as well I would have a handle as it is nice for hooking into with the kite parked on the ground while taking a brake/break.

4. With big kites I like the trim strap within easy reach as their functional sheeting range is so large. 2:1 maybe not essential but easier to use and my guess is it would definitely be worthwhile for large R1 and Chrono.

PS Generally I do not use flying line stopper balls on flag out lines unless it is a 5th line, as they increase risk of tangles and introduce possible wear points. I usually think re-ride on foils is a bit too dodgy if well powered!!

I hate straps, balls all the way.
