Small Souls as light wind foiling weapons

Postby cwood » Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:43 pm

Rode Moses 679 yesterday, 7 to 9 kts with 10m Soul on 6m extensions (27m). Rain and sleet so a wet kite. Guys with 15's couldn't stay out. Someone with a 19m R1V2 was able to ride but swam eventually because one wrong move and taco city. I was nicely powered for 2 hours and managed a few boosts.

I am now a firm believer that if you fly foil kites, are adept at looping...... sub 10 kts you are far better off with a large wing and small kite than even a 15m or mega large kites. It's super fun to work the kite and manage your glide. 679 is a great wing!

Sold my 15m race foil kite and kept my 11m because I couldn’t keep my 15m in the air in variable sub 10knot winds but can with my 11m due to maneuverability and less inertia. But now I want a 18m foil kite to try again (short lines). Big kite and small foil is more fun for me than big foil and smaller kite. No real waves here.

I don't know which race kite you had but a few have not been the lightest kites. Some of the lighter kites now can static fly down to 2-3 knots, like the Peak. The other light fabric kites can actively fly to about 1 knot.

Yes a big hydrofoil would be boring without waves. In fact am not sure how interesting any hydrofoil would be without waves at all. Boosting and going fast does look fun. Airstyle would be good. When are we going to see Toby Hydrofoil edition :-P

The new Aeolus from Pansh looks good. viewtopic.php?f=197&t=2405428
