Sonic/Soul/Peak - 8 and 6 knots lightwind foiling

Was there Peak from beginning? Peak is of course safe flyer at 6knts but otherwise you know my opinion

I'm pretty sure if one takes out 18m Sonic it would be rideable in steady 6 knots, but Armin flew the 13m Peak4 in 7 and I'm hoping to hear how low folks could go with an 11m Peak. Jeff Howard rides a 9m foil kite as his lightwind.
So any positive/negative feedback is interesting to hear.

I am105KG and ride my peak 11m at 8-9 knots with large wing. Waiting to see if the new 13M is any better but need a low wind day!

A question to folks who like to take lightwind as a challenge. Foiling in 10 knots is not a big deal - it's nice to ride calm but breezy.

What size of Sonic/Soul/Peak would you take for foiling in steady 8 knots? What about 6 knots?
Please also state your weight and choice of foil wing size you'd ride.

(Many mentioned that Peak is not a competitor to Sonic in pre-extreme lightwind wind range, but I'm sure many tried and succeeded in lightwind riding using non-race kite)

6 - 8 kts; Soul 12m.

Just changed to Ketos WaveXL.. don't have any numbers or impression yet..
Waiting for a change to try some Peaks this year.

Speed 5 21 + big door, 7 STEADY knots and I can ride. Mr. SBH (Swimming back home) is always a companion in these sessions ))
I don't foil but some friends of mine with foils are not using very big sails anymore, 15 mts max. When they can't ride with a 15 and a foil it' means it's really no wind, no matter the size of the sail or the foil you're using. Note that lakes like our are different than ocean, it's very rare to have a few steady knots. If the wind picks up it's 7/8 minimum, elsewhere it's zero.

70 kg 120cm groove skate with a 150 lift. 8kts with a 9 hyperlink ultra light on 30m race lines . 8kts with a 8m peak 30m race lines. Our beach gets 4-10 kts most days so I choose my peaks as I have never swam in . I have been riding the 5m peak for almost a year in wind 10-20 kts . Now that I have the 8m it will be lonely out on the water .

Your body weight must be very light. In 7 knots, I can only go downwind with my 21 Soul and big door (I weigh 85KG). I need 9 knots of steady wind to stay even, but doing front/back rolls in 10.

Two friends of mine have ozone chrono 18m² and 21m²( 21 I don't know if it is chrono) but this guys ride until 5 knots. They say if you drop the kite is game over. They use carbon race board and go every where.

About personal weight, it does make the difference. Two years ago I was 80-81 and as you correctly say, 9 knots minimum to mow the lawn. At 10 kgs less, 7 knots (I repeat, 7 steady, that means it's not gusting 5 to 9, it means that on the beach the anemometer tells constantly 7/8 but not less than 7). I also can feel the difference between spring/autumn (heavy wetsuit) and summer (boardshorts).

Im able ride on 8m soul at 8-9 knts moses onda 633 / 86 kg

at 6 knts none of these kites are safe flyer so its hit or miss get in to the water.

What line length are you using at 8kts for that 8m and what size board I think you need ideal conditions with current, swell, etc etc plus at least 30m lines to pull that off with a larger board. I struggled below 10kts on the 8m and I’m basically same weight riding the 633 with a Groove Skate S(110cm). With my Soul 10m it’s no problem.

I may get the chance to do some testing on the Peak4 13m to see how long you can go and I’m interested to see and hopeful of the results. I think sub 8kts you need a pumpable foil(don’t really think the 633 qualifies for that) and a nice higher volume board.

i am having some good results at 7-8 with the 13m Peak with a huge wing.

The 13M is def better than the 11 for me @ 100KG. Same top end better bottom end for sure. It is a diesel for sure. Best results in low wind are with loop start.

Kitedougiefresh and others - could you comment on the high end? that is, us inland dwellers do not get steady wind so if I have say a 13m Peak out in say 5G20 wind, will I regret it? Trying to understand what kite will best survive (keep flying) in the lulls yet not become a liability in a gust. This may not make sense to folk used to coastal winds, but around here you can quickly get into trouble if your kite is to big. Yet your session is pointless if kite can't get you up and riding.

Sounds like I should go on a diet, and improve the low end ! Currently at around 93 kg, and the stay-at-home thing is not helping.
