Now normally I would drift the kite directly overhead, LE to upwind. Hydrofoil has me exploring new methods. I have previously used the side method but at the side. What I have discovered is you can turn the kite sideways directly over head. The kite seems to drift better and never collapse in a bad way like that. It doesn't slack the lines as well and you can't fly forward as easy. It is more of an kite follow you method in that it tends to keep a little line tension. Overall I think it is an easier method to use. The hard bit is getting it to turn just before you slack the lines. So you basically have it over head and then turn it sideways just as you slack it. You can do it with it deeper or at the side, obviously.
