No idea if peaks work with a surfboard but I do know that knowing you can’t relaunch means you ride a peak differently than an LEI. That’s not actually a draw back. You don’t need to fly it as much so are less aggressive with the kite independent of how hard your riding. It sits at the top and just goes right or left. You can downloop for fun, you can pinwheel it for fun, but it’s not necessary for power or placement. Certainly out on a reef, it’s just not likely a skilled kiter would take chances and drop it.
So at the edge of the window without bar input it doesn't go further down to the water and just stays 100% in place? Or does it even auto-zenith if you let go of the bar? My main concern would be wiping out in overhead conditions, being washed blindly without knowing where the kite is, and crashing a non inflatable in the set. Forget about relaunch when that happens I presume?

If you ride in these conditions, use a (heavy duty as the kite will get tumbled too and might not survive) tubekite instead

Yeah, I don’t think I would choose a peak for overhead waves. No hand on the bar they eventually fall to the side pretty much the same as any lei.
