I only concertina my Marabous on grass, or back home in the garage. On grass, as long as I use my sandbag to hold the stack down when rolling the other side, the wind isn't a problem.

I just do a quick roll-up on sand, save it for later

.... on a closed cell kite, you cannot purge the air inside the kite with this method ... or do I miss something ?

The new R1 V4 apparently has some composite LE battens, carbon or glass fiber I would guess, maybe this special super expensive metal they use in some paragliding wings.

Anyway they have an instruction video on their website using the paragliding technique and advise you to do so to not break the battens.

With Acetal/Nylon battens used in 95% of Foil kites its not necessary though.

I used some glass fiber battens in my own kites and when the cell width is about the cell height you can roll them quite nice like most other kites which is good for the cloth and the battens just fold onto each other no problem there although they are a bit more fragile than nylon.
Glass fiber adds some nice tension to the leading edge ribs though and even helps to inflate the kite when its brought out of the bag flat out.

Ozone make a special concertina bag for there paragliders and also for there foil kites . I have one for my ultra light Hyperlink they hold all the leading edge rods together.

I fold my Marabou's somewhat in this fashion. Roll from the tips toward the center keeping the battons flat, leave the middle 4 cells to sandwich at the end. Makes it easier to fit in the bag.
I have been thinking this question after seeing that vid knowing the soul's have a batten , but after reading tru these early posts , but I packaway in a very similar fashion to geo , i normally backline down , stake my backline strap with a landing line iv'e added, and go to the kite pull tip downwind ,place my landboard on down wind tip and start to fold the upwind tip into the centre after placing bridle lines in and lay my bar on the upwind side that is folded neatly , sonetimes i do use little piles of sand, but i prefere not to if the kite is sitting nicely , and then the same downwind end , fold inhalf with bar and lines inside the folded kite and i have some custom made stuff sacks and that's how i how i have always landed , with flexi blades on handles with a roller strop , and then flexi depower sabres , and then several years on second hand flysurfer early speeds and early pyscho 3's...the 10 metre p3 is the only kite i could do 720's on with control , it was a beat up old thing but i loved it , was a custom colour ,
i have have never forgiven myself for selling it ,that and my mesa boogie mark2 1981 60/100watt 1x12 combo. that thing was a beast and i have never found anything to replace it ,well not quite (jubilee)
