And legislating for human error on pack down and handling, the glass is likely more durable and tolerant of f*** ups
When you combine Carbon fibers, with Kevlar , Spectra, or Synthex fibers, and add
a binding agent like Epoxy ; it yields an end-product that is , (WAY) Stronger, than
anything that is made with equal weight of fiberglass fibers , with epoxy (.)
Don't even Begin to argue that point with Me ; your gonna loose.

The only advantage for using fiberglass ; yea -- it's cheaper .

Bille
Chill... I agree fully when cost is not a consideration.

As it is though..

I wanna argue Bille

Fibreglass has good characteristics over carbon, in terms of being able to bend and getting hammered, WITHOUT breaking :thumb:

Same thing with windsurf masts actually...

Thinking about this whenever I pack my Peak4 kites down to "nothing" in the bags, without worrying about breaking these lovely things :naughty:

I have Much respect , for you and your knowledge bank Peter ; i believe
you may have missed the part, about Mixing Carbon, with Kevlar, Spectra, or Synthex fibers
when you stated your argument ?

How many fiberglass crash-cages , that you know of ; that can take
a crash of over 220-mph in an F-1 open cart racer ?
Answer : ----------------------------- NONE !!

In a much lower cost ratio , for builders of kites, like Flysurfer, or DIY's like us on
KF ; mixing Carbon with other materials i mentioned already , will
yield WAY higher strength / weight ratios, and stiffness than fiberglass fibers.
The flexibility needed for your project ; can easily be achieved with the materials
i'm bias towards , by utilizing the correct mix, and fiber placement ratio.

As i already stated , the only advantage for using fiberglass is , Price .

Seriously guys : your going Nowhere with your bias to using fiberglass ; there
are much better materials on the market, than that out-dated stuff. YEA
they cost more , (Much more) ; but the cost could be justified, in cretin applications
like the kite were talking about here. This IS a race kite ; isn't it ?

My guess is that in kite the rods must be flexible, designed flexibility. Le side rod is on top sail and te on bottom sail like tall letter S.

Fabric must be able to live according to aerodynamic and line forces. For example making steering better.

Agree Bille, but carbon HAS to be combined with something else, to work....

Maybe that was what you wrote I can see now, sorry for not seeing this - but would just emphasize to others, that carbon in itself is no good in this respect

Peter --- please don't apologize ; i kinda know, your a bit smarter than me . :thumb:

I have a very limited knowledge base ; and composites happens to be one of them.

Bille,
Fibreglass has a very high failure strain level. Some fibres above 5%.
How can you achieve this by mixing Carbon, with Kevlar, Spectra, or Synthex fibers?

Knowing flysurfer they most likely decided that the gain wasn’t worth the extra cost. Also this looks like a huge step forward but the cost is actually less than the previous generation. That’s amazing in my opinion.

Bille, these are replaceable so maybe you can make an aftermarket rod to replace these for those who are willing to pay the extra.

Bille,
I asked for failure strain, not yield strength. You should only use yield strength for ductile materials (most metals).

I would be genuinely very interested if you know a fibre composite with a compression strain failure higher than S-glass.
