boosting on larger souls

Postby RomeUtah » Fri Jul 17, 2020 2:58 pm

Anyone have tips on getting higher up on a 15m soul on a tt? went out yesterday and was able to get up in the 10m range in 15-20mph wind but could not really get up any higher, the jumps were super lofty but not as high unless i caught a gust

Try going faster and using a kicker, a bit more like you would on a twintip. Much harder to manage the power on the board, but it will get you higher.

I usually don't bother with 15 soul and TT unless it's super flat or there are good kickers.. it's just impossible to edge and get decent height..
but 20kts and good kicker setup will get ya 13+ woo meters pretty much guaranteed.
For any chop you'd need hydrofoil to boost, imho..

When you send it back for the jump, are you keeping the bar fully in or sheeting out a little? Sheeting bout some will let the kite accelerate a little faster which means more height. Usually I won’t sheet fully in until I’m around midway up.

Hey Rome,

10m is good on a 15m. We don’t have any good kickers at our local spots. You could go higher by riding that beast on really gusty days at DC, but you know how dicey it can be...

A smaller kite in high winds is going to boost you higher. The problem with the 15 is that it becomes hard to hold an edge as the wind increases. You don’t have the weight to hold that monster down in 25 knot winds, but that is okay, on a 10 or 12, you could easily exceed 10m high. 👍
