Need help, is this kite any good? It is 2016 as I understand, UL, but seller saying in very good condition.
Im not in EU so cant inspect the kite.
Cheers
on a side note to this kite being in the EU
In the last 12 months I have declined to send items to Australia due to postage costs which were unreal, a £350 secondhand small kite board was £160 gmb to send, and one guy who wanted a kite off me and agreed to buy, then backed away when I asked him to check postage costs first.
The elf joker 6 was a great, stable kite. The joker 7 was much less user friendly in light winds.
2016? I guess it could be, but the Joker 7 came out in early 2016. I think most Joker 6's were from 2014-2015.
I've never heard of an UL version of the Joker 6. I do remember hearing rumors that you could order them with different fabrics, so could be correct. I just never heard of any of them called UL.
The only issue would be if you need to find the lines plan to tune the kite, I'm not sure if you can get it. I know people who used to own these kites had information from elf, but it was provided by email. You can't just go to the manufacturer website and look up old models like you can for big manufacturers flysurfer and ozone.
How much are they asking? I've seen used Joker 6's going for around $350 in the US. That seems like a reasonable price for an older race kite with a very limited market.
Seems like way too much to me for a 3 generations old race kite. At that price, you can get a sonic 2. You can get an R1V2 for a bit more. I recently sold my 2018 R1V2 18m for $900, and it wasn't even a quick sale. I think the Sonic 2 or R1V2 would be a better choice at the same price.
Used race kites are a weird market. People pay a huge amount for them new, and then no one wants to buy them used. They often get listed for much higher prices than anyone would pay. Then they sit unsold for months, and the prices get dropped. I've been on both sides, buying used from now on!

I can’t see any line plans on the Elf website, that will make it a nightmare to tune if they aren’t available. Just bought myself a FS Sonic 2 15mtr, imported out of the US into Oz. Needed tuning but flying perfectly now. AUD$180 shipping and took 6 weeks to get here.

The Joker 6 had really good reviews, I never personally flew one but I saw them on the race course and they seemed to do well back then. I owned a Joker 5 in 15m and really liked the behavior of that kite, fun to fly.
I would not recommend a Joker 7, owned a 15m for several years and recently sold it when I bought an R1V2. It was good super powered up, but I didn't need a 15m that only rode good super powered up. It was one of the last race kites before the onset of ultralight materials, so it was heavy for its size.
I did hear that you could order them in UL materials, and if it's a 2016 it might have been one of the later models that he tried out some UL materials on. The "rumor" I heard was that although they weighed less they didn't perform as well because the design needed to be redone in order to take advantage of the UL materials, they were not flying the same when pressurized or something something.
Dave's right though, R1V2 or Sonic2 will perform great and are available at super competitive prices. Those are the kites I fly and they're mostly newish, inside the first 1/3rd of their normal lifespans. Much happier now.
I have a Elf Joker6 15m and love it
See video for a low wind example.
The wind meter showed 2.3m/s ! (watch at the end of video)
I logged 35km/h with peak at 45km/h on this run.
I also got a long tuning data from former owner. I cannot guarantee it, but that's how my 15m is trimmed.
Of course today there are a lot of foilkites on sale, see Kiteracing2hand at facebook
So don't pay to much.
