Ozone Explore V2 12M on Snow

Postby klohry » Thu Nov 26, 2020 11:49 pm

I've been kiting water and snow for about 20 years. I kite on snow (on skis) with 4 or 5 year old ozone Frenzy's (13, 11 & 9m). I'm 140 lbs and ordered a 12M Explore V2 (from my local ozone dealer) to replace my 13M frenzy. Reading about the power of the single skin kites, I'm worried now that this may be too much kite and I might be better off with an Explore v2 10m or even a Flysurfer Peak 4 8m. Anybody want to weigh in on the Explore V2 12M? I love light wind snow kiting on my 13, but would love to squeak out a few more nots.

I like your choice on the 12 and wouldn’t go down as you still have the other kites if needed. My Frenzy 12 is still pretty good, even with pin holes, in lite wind but sometimes I have to pull the center lines to jellyfish it up at the start. But the Explore V2 12 would be a good replacement.

Thanks Dave, Yeah, we kited locally (Boulder) on Thanksgiving and there was just barely enough wind for my 13 Frenzy. Can't wait for the 12 Explore now. We'll see.
I'm also a little curious about the 4 and 5 meter Flysurfer Peak4s in high winds in the mountains; I've heard they're super stable. I have been blown off my 9m several times up at Berthoud and thought it would be nice to have a kite to pull me up to Mines Peak when the snow sticks that far up.
