To answer original question. Any added mass is bad overal. It can be advantage on very special one stroke events. Like jumps or straight to foil powerstroke. Here you can utilize energy stored in momentum. Only on reasonable longer lines though.
I much prefer inertia less kites. Having all type of kites double skin foil kites have most inertia from all kite types.

Acceleration due to gravity is same for heavy or light objects. The only way the motion is influenced on the down stroke is the fluid dynamics, is it not. More kinetic and potential energy is in the heavy object, but if you extract it you will require more energy to make it fly on the upstroke via a system that is bound to be less than 100% efficient. Guessing extra weight is bad.........but doing the maths will give me a headache plus it is early in the morning and these thoughts could be garbage!!!!!!

Peaks probably loose more energy through waterdroplets too, especially when they fly up. The ultralight fabric has an uneven surface with a bend at the trailing endge and each droplet that sprays off probably makes the fabric jitter because there is no supporting force from pressure like on a double skin.
