is correct to compare an Ozone Hyperlink 11m to a Zephyr (17m LEI) about wind ranges?

Postby Archer77 » Fri May 28, 2021 2:18 pm

Hey all!

Many told me the Zephyr (in particular the low end) is more comparable to an Hyperlink 13m, but from some reviews, as the one of KiteworldMag, they say the Hyperlink V2 11m low end is very good from 10 to 14 knots on TT, so should be the more correct size to compare to the Zephyr...

some ideas or you have tried both and can compare?

Best

The 17 Zephyr is comparable to a 15m foil.

I have a 12m Hyperlink and a 12m Dice. They are not close, but no way is a 17m Zephyr that far off. The Dice is definitely not a light wind kite, but still. This is TT, not sure on foil. I would say 15m maybe.

I would say it's comparably to the 13 Hyperlink.

No.

I have ridden several generations of Zephyr. Sold my last one and replaced it with a Chrono V3-13UL, which is a lot more powerful than the Hyperlink 11, but pretty similar to a Zephyr.

I have not ridden the Hyperlink 13 but would guess it has slightly less low-end than the Chrono 13. The Chrono will of course also generate much more power when when flown activley.

good luck it trying to prevent the Zephyr dropping in light airs, and as for getting upwind in light airs, which mine was hopeless at on a TT,
and light wind relaunch was poor compared to chrono v3 v4 or Hyperlink kites, owned all of them, for both TT use and foil use, bar pressure on the zephyr put me off as well, I sold mine very quickly as I failed to agree with anyone on its light wind abilities, or come to that its higher wind range either, but I had the advantage of knowing how good the large more recent freeride foils from ozone are.
chalk and cheese comparison.

Agreed, and to put some nuance to my post above. I loved the Zephyr as a lightwind TT-kite and have owned several. Just pump and ride, no hassle. Aditionally it really shined in its (surprisingly high) upper range. Always safe and a great booster. I migrated towards foilboarding in that wind range, hence the Chrono with better no-drop odds in low lulls.

I simply replied to the question 11 vs 17 from OP.
