is correct to compare an Ozone Hyperlink 11m to a Zephyr (17m LEI) about wind ranges?

I can't compare the Zephyr to foils, but I do not agree with Foil's description of the Zephyr. Or agree or disagree might not be the right words, but I don't share his/her views.

But I guess the OP is looking to replace his Zephyr with a foil? So I guess he knows the Zephyr as well as me.

good luck it trying to prevent the Zephyr dropping in light airs, and as for getting upwind in light airs, which mine was hopeless at on a TT,
and light wind relaunch was poor compared to chrono v3 v4 or Hyperlink kites, owned all of them, for both TT use and foil use, bar pressure on the zephyr put me off as well, I sold mine very quickly as I failed to agree with anyone on its light wind abilities, or come to that its higher wind range either, but I had the advantage of knowing how good the large more recent freeride foils from ozone are.
chalk and cheese comparison.

If u dont use for snowkite go for zephyr ...freestyle in light Wind or unhooked Much Better than foils

Agreed, and to put some nuance to my post above. I loved the Zephyr as a lightwind TT-kite and have owned several. Just pump and ride, no hassle. Aditionally it really shined in its (surprisingly high) upper range. Always safe and a great booster. I migrated towards foilboarding in that wind range, hence the Chrono with better no-drop odds in low lulls.

I simply replied to the question 11 vs 17 from OP.

(hope the multi quote can give all a notification of quote, I done it manually)

yes in fact I can't use my Zephyr V5 in less than 11 knots with TT... it's very heavy being five struts
for this reason I'm thinking to a Hyperlink but would prefer the 11m for its bigger wind range that top the one of the Zephyr, but if the low end is very different I have to think it better about the choice among:
new Zephyr V7 (when will arrive)
Alpha V2 14m
or Hyperlink 11m

probably the zephyr is a winner between 11 and 20 knots with a TT

so for TT the Zephyr seams the wiser choice, also if I'm starting with HF... but I could use my Catalyst V1 12m for the HF...

I seriously doubt you can ride 17m LEI in wind range of 11-20kts. You could do it on foil kites but not on LEI IMHO.
If you look to ride TT in less than 11kts you probably need 15-18m foil kite and if already familiar with foil kites than give it a try.

I rode my 18m LEI on twintip powered enough to do unhooking in 10 knots, and I weigh 85kg.

I could ride it on a big board with long lines at 8 knots, but that was the minimum. Biggest problem was getting upwind... in those light winds your window shifts backwards so much when you have enough speed to be powered, that you can't stay upwind well. So for very lightwind riding I would recommend the Hyperlink, for 10+ riding with tricks I would go for the Zephyr.

If you get the kite fly in 3.5 knots it doesn’t mean you’ll be able to ride it.
If you get a huge kite in control in strong winds it doesn’t necessarily mean you will survive a day if a gust picks you up, especially if preceded by a lull getting your kite fold into a messy cloth and start falling deep into wind window. It doesn’t mean you won’t be dragged mercilessly and completely out of control if you mistakenly loop a huge kite.

You can doesn’t meant you should. Pick appropriate equipment for the sport and the conditions.

And there’s no magic. Modern kites have comparable low/highend to a size - be it a foil or a LEI.

Hey all!

Many told me the Zephyr (in particular the low end) is more comparable to an Hyperlink 13m, but from some reviews, as the one of KiteworldMag, they say the Hyperlink V2 11m low end is very good from 10 to 14 knots on TT, so should be the more correct size to compare to the Zephyr...

some ideas or you have tried both and can compare?

Best

I personally would not pick the hyperlink for twin tip, be better off with Chrono…. Have both, Have Tried it, But neither would I want a 17 5 strut lei either. You did not mention your weight.

hi papasmerf, my weight is 80kg, I like the Chrono but the classic foil bridles feel too complex in particular to start with foil kites
