Foil kite bridle line spec

Postby tomi3000 » Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:35 pm

I need to replace CR1 and CM1 on my Ozone Chrono V2.

The bridle I got are 1mm in diameter and have solid core.

Can you recommend any similar type rope that can be used instead? All I can find online is 12 strand dyneema SK75 braided line 1mm.

Take a look at Liros lines.
https://www.liros.com/catalog/en/dsl-25-p3403/undefined
The Chrono V2 uses sheathed dyneema line, can you measure the diameter of the line and find something of a similar size?
The load strain is probably in the region of 90 – 120kg if I had to make a guess.
Ozone do issue line plans, but the line breaking strain isn't stated.

Yeah I think everyone goes through this drama at some point, I had same issue with Hyperlink when I was first getting into foil kites. Eventually you realise that matching the diameter (and therefore approx breaking strain) is more important and hollow core lines like dyneema/lyros work fine and are way easier to splice. The sheathed lines have similar breaking strain but they offer more abbrasion and cut resistance (and arguably less shrinkage) which is a nice-to-have but you can live with just normal dyneema core. Another question that comes up sometimes is the same question but RE replacing arimin based fibre lines like "kevlar" and technora, same deal for these just replace with dyneema/lyros 1mm and it does the job.

Somone might correct me on this but I was told the main reason at the factory they often fold over the bridle lines and stictch to terminate is for two reaosns; one they sometimes want to use sheathed lines and the other reason is its super easy to get the exact length so its easier/faster/cheaper to create a heap of lines the exact same length, splicing each one can create small variations in line length due to taper length etc but the stitched and not spliced ones are always bang on.

I am trying to source to orignial line and I confirm it is Sheathed Dyneema 6480-090 Grey. I have an OCD for keeping things symetrical but if I can't find it anywhere I may need to replace it with some other alternatieve.

Looks like the line is made by Edelride and called “Phoenix” going by the number that you have quoted.

Select dyneema, then “PHOENIX”
6480 “090” 1.1mm/90 KG

For me I have managed to find the exact spare line before the problem is how to terminate to the correct length. If you've got a sewing machine and the right thread and the know-how you are all good. In the US for Ozone there is a company that terminates these lines and sends them to you as a service. You tell them which line for which kite and the length and they find the exact line and terminate and send you the exact line. Its expensive and I think only open to US customers. Most people just use a line of the same characteristics and terminate with a splice which costs about $5 and takes about 10 mins and does the same job, but I was the same originally, wanted the exact line for my precious.
