Flysurfer Peak 5

Tried the new 8 m yesterday. Thought it flew very well in 4-7 knots. Seemed to turn better, but maybe because I am hoping it will.

On a side note, has anyone flown a Peak with a high V bar?

The Connect bar is high-y, so I would guess that is what most are using. I am at least

I have two connect bars with high V, and I used high V on most of my LEI kites anyways, so mostly I have been using high V on the Peak's using my old bars so I have one on each size.

But also used a bar with low V sometimes, both works and no difference in feel IMO.

Great news, I scored a great deal on a new Core Bar so I am now excited to try it.

The new fabric is cool, i just played with it. You can not tear it, even if you make a little cut with scissors first. It just stretches. But then it can be pulled back into shape.

None of the differences to the previous version would point to that. If anything it might be worse to waterstart because the longer nylon rods now make the trailing edge less likely to lift off the watersurface to reverse start.

In the one time I've dropped my 6m I would say no, not at all. Mine sunk fairly quickly in sub 10kts.

That's the trade off with the Peak. Some say that in higher winds you can relaunch but I have never been able to do so even with my 3m in high winds. I have been successful with the 3m just swimming to the kite and resetting it and hotlaunching on the water like the beach but its difficult and besides for me, the Peak is more for lower winds.

You might have better luck with a hybrid like the one from Gin or that Russian one. I've heard rumors there's one coming from Flysurfer specifically designed towards hydrofoiling but I don't have any more details than that. The relaunch problem most definitely is something people should know before they buy one. Remember the Peak was designed as a snowkite, not a waterkite.
