If I can pick up a discounted Peak 4, is it worth it? Is the 5 so much better that it is hardly a deal if the 4 is $200 cheaper? I never had a Peak so I wonder if the Peak 4 is still a good choice now that the 5 is in peoples hand. Any insight? Usually with LEI kites the improvements are marginal.
Go with peak5!
For my kind of riding they soo muuch better. You never get these folding wingtips, drifts better, don't invert, better relaunch.
However if you use them in the lower range, you might get the peak4.
This is for 4m and 5m. Personally, I got suprised how much better they are.
Could you or someone write what wind range is of Peak5 5 and 6 meters kites? As i understood from this forum posts for 70 kg person:

Peak5 6m is from about 9 (8) knots till 15 (16)?

and for Peak5 5m 10 (9) till 18 (19) knots?

My estimate for 70 kg (you I understand?):

6 m2 8-9 to 12-13 knots.
5 m2 11 to 15 knots.

Today I had my first session on the peak5 6m2.
I have also Peak4 8 m2 and 11m2.
The 'fun factor wind range' as I feel it (80 kg ) is as follows:
8-11 knots Peak 11m2.
10-13 knots Peak 8m2
11-15 knots Peak 6m2.
Give or take 0.5 knots depending on weight, wind and sea quality.
The wing is Moses 633, 92 cm mast.
Regarding my impression about the Peak5 6m2:
Swift and soft feeling. :mosh:
The bar setup is tight, mening that should be carefully adjusted, especially if you interchange bars.

I just bought a peak5 4m, any bar recommendations? I guess the lighter the better.

I am now using an Ozone Race 25m 55cm for all my kites.

I'd go for the Flysurfer 50cm Connect Bar. It's designed for the Peak kites, it's light, simple, relatively inexpensive and comes with 21m and 14m line length options.
Also if you're thinking of snow kiting, the Connect Bar is the only option which gives you the B-Safe system which safely brings the kite down in a blizzard or strong wind.

Connect bar is great for snowkiting and landing in tight spots. If you dont need a 5th line, a normal 4 line bar is easier to handle.

I have my peaks on 5 lines and qute often it rolls around and twists, then i have to unattach/reattach the lines. With a normal 4 line bar it is easier to figure out what us twisted.

It is also really easy to add a 5th line for landing to a 4line bar for peaks, since there is no tension on the 5th line.

Then I'll try my current 4 line bar and we'll see.

It's easy to use the Connect Bar with 4 lines as most foilers do. No need for 5 lines on the water.

25 meter lines seems a bit long?

No problem though, if you like this length for what are you using in lighter winds, 5 or 6 m2 Peaks?

If using LEI's, 25 meter is fine, but with the Peak it is a bit long in my experience.

55 cm bar is also very long, not because it turns fast (one gets used to this), but because it feels too big and clumsy.

I once got a 54 cm bar for all my LEI wavekites - had to sell it and get a 48 cm as it felt much better in size.
Not because of turning, simply because it was too big and felt wrong.

And I personally prefer long bars, so it really means something not being TOO long.

Just my inputs.

Any 4 line bar will do though - the lighter the better yes, and keep it simple.

I never use the 5 line system.

If you find your 25 m 55 cm works fine for your other foil kites, just use this one, no problem.

Two weeks ago I tried the Peak5 4m, with a Fone high "Y" bar and 21m lines in 15 knots, I went with my Ultra 6m and discovered the magic of the Peaks for carving,
I decided to buy one for those conditions of 14 to 22 knots, which is the prevailing wind in my area with small wind-waves.
The truth is that the price of the peak is interesting but the bar makes the whole thing more expensive but if necessary I will buy one or even make a custom one with 20 mts lines using spare parts of 4 old bars . ( very simple only for this kite) i dont going to change my whole quiver because I'm more interested in freestyle (a bit strange to use a race bar for Freestyle, ha,ha but works great for all my kites) with 55cm Ozone bar 25 m lines I use my 4,5,6 and 9m LEIs with no problem and the another bar with 30m for 12 and 14m kites. Now I don't use any foilkite.
It all depends on how it behaves with my current bar.

By the way, when I tested the peak5 4m it had a slight tendency to back stall, is this normal or can it be corrected by trimming or is 15 knots the low range for the 4m?

The backstall is normal, and it gets worse as you move down to smaller sizes, where the entire range of the kite is accomplished with a relatively short bar throw.

It might be possible to trim out most or all of the backstall, and I usually tried to do this when I was first starting with the Peaks, as a ham-fisted LEI flyer.

But the peak is a free and easy slow wave-riding hydrofoil kite, and its much more fun if you only have to sheet in a bit to feel the juice, versus scrunching up and pulling the bar all the way in to get max power.

I'm a knuckle-dragger, so I like to keep it trimmed for full depower right at the end of my ridiculously long arms, and then just learn that, most often, but not always, it is a bad idea to pull the bar in too far...

Once I get the bar trimmed the way I like, I don't feel the need to change it for any size, or wind condition.

...But keep in mind I have every size from 3-11.

I want to try shorter lines, but I'm still using 20 meters most of the time, and switching to 24 meters with the 8 and 11 meter, or if conditions feel light/gusty for whatever size I plan to use.

Not sure if this helps... But that's how it works best, for me...
