If the price difference is really big between the 15 and 18 I would do what SolarSet suggest.
Make sure you get a wider bar and if the 18 comes compleet with bar and lines take the 3m extensions off, makes it turn a bit quicker.
And I read it's a close friend.. so try it in marginal winds, I think he woudn't mind..
Its around 1200$ difference, if i go for the 15m i would
have to buy it new at 3000$ and the 18m would cost me around 1800$. The 18m comes with bar and extensions yeah, and also a 60cm bar. I am hoping it will be good fun in the 14-17knots region, hoping someone with my weight who flies the 18m can chime in!!

get the 18m. My weight is around 86kg and got me a 9,13,18 sonic 3. With TT around 20 knots its the max for me. Got me 26m lines and 60cm bar. Super smooth flying and hangtime.
With 16knots and maybe dropping wind youre glad you have an 18m.

what my fear basically boils down to is the 15m and the 11xr will be too close together in the windranges they actually start to get fun (riding overpowered and jumping high).
Don't forget that a soul has more power compared to a tube, so the 15m soul compares more to a 17/18m XR and the 18m soul more to a 20/21m XR, also in terms of turning speed. But they do have a compareable high end, so a wider usable windrange. Try the 18m if it is possible!

Have you flown the 15m by any chance? And do you mean 20 knots in gusts or steady wind? I’m curious to how high you jump on average on the 18m

Flown the 15 Soul and Sonic. But had a 13m already so the 18 fills the gap beter for me. 15m is more lively and faster of course. havent used the 18 that much yet. But its a session saver for sure. Dont let the size scare you off. And yes with steady give or take 20 knots its the limit for me. for now 😅

If you are only going to use it while riding a twintip, get the 18m. If you plan on hydrofoiling as well, get the 15m.

It is a no brainer.

Get the 18m. I am 60kg and have 17m R1 v2. Its a session saver, and for AU$600 cant complain.

Than wait for 15m good price and thats it.

18m will jump, but the wind is not that strong so the jumps will be ok for THAT wind. Sure, with 90kg take it on medium wind and enjoy the paraglider ;)

I know I’m late to this thread, but I own 15m and 18m Soul 1, plus a whole bunch of XRs.
I only Twin tip and weigh 70kg.
Bought both to keep myself and my son riding as low as possible.
I always reach for the 18m to get me going early and am continuously surprised how long I can hold onto it.
Both Souls have lots of light easy depower, making them very smooth at their top end.
For me, the 18m has almost the same upper range as my 15m XR5 which I use when windy is gustier or launch area is sketchy or waves are larger/rougher.
18m and 15m are both slow compared to any tube (it will be glacial compared to your 11m XR), it took me a long time to adjust to the timing differences for turning & sending, but the hang time is out of this world.
Also being slow, they are fun to learn tricks on since they don’t oversteer when you get ham-fisted.
The 15m sure has higher end, but at the target wind range you mention, a guy of your size should have no problem with the 18m. I would be comfortable in that range with the 15m and I’m 50lb lighter and not that good.

To chime in on jumping with souls vs XRs..
As people already mentioned, foils are different beasts..
they develop more apparent winds at speed
they are slower and harder to hold while sending
15 will be the equivalent of 17LEI, and most kite brands would stop at that size as there is very limited benefit of going bigger in size (maybe just hangtime, but definitely not height)
So, important bit is to look at the board..
Most of the guys who boost big on FS kites moved to foil boards, but before they did they used custom TT contraptions like this

So with either size, look for proper lightwind board and/or upgrade thins to bigger ones.
I have 15 and would only bother to TT with it if there are good kickers or it's super flat.. likely I always bring my hydorfoil for boosting :)
