Never seen this happen before!
Can you provide additional close up images of both parts of the wing?

I had assumed that one of the lines was caught up on something. You can see what possibly looks like another kite line a few metres up the lines. I suspect its this that causes the chain reaction. Not sure if this person has ridden through another kiters lines or whether its one of his own lines tangled up?

I've never seen a LEI spit in half! I see all the ripstop split all the time but the dacron LE and bladder always remain.

That's his own front line, you see it flapping around still connected to the trim system. Would explain why the kite is looping, although the kite must have seen some wear or even previous damage to tear in two like this by a snapped front line.

well, not interested in foil kites per se, but if you look the video, you can see there's a an odd area/line in the kite just where it will rip, so there must have been a repair which gave out.

This one does look like a result of a tangle with another rider/object, but I have seen this happen twice without any tangles before.
First one was a Chrono V1 15m. Rider got submerged and kite under heavy tension. The kite exploded with a loud bang. A tip got torn off and amost all internal ribs were torn.
The second one was a Sonic Race 11m. Same rider. Kite split in half mid air during a downloop when the rider fell. Kite did not touch the water.
