Flysurfer is also releasing a single skin closed cell kite called “the hybrid”. Interesting play for those that strayed away from non water launching foil kites. Should be interesting.
Where does this news come from? Any more info?

It probably comes from a discussion with flysurfer at AWSI this week in hood river, is my guess.

This has been known for awhile now. I'm guessing we will see it at AWSI. Funny thing is the original Peak was designed with the leading edge inflated and they decided against it due to loss of performance. I'm curious to see how they did it this time around.

But unless a hybrid is a full or semi double skin, it would most likely never be better performing and definitely heavier than a non-hybrid single skin, as it is probably only for flotation on the water, so can only perform less?

Makes a lot of sense to me, but apparently many seek flotation it seems?

It probably wont’t drift as well, but it might have a bit more lift and sit further in front in the window. For flatwater foiling that could be a selling point, like a softkite version of UFOs.

It would be cool to have it convertible to open cell for snowkiting like the hyperlink.

I hear from people who won't go near the peak because of perceived lack of relaunch. A hybrid might give them a chance to join the party. I'm happy with my peaks but would sacrifice a little in performance for the reassurance of higher relaunch success. For spots where you have to go distance to get to waves then I think a hybrid is more reassuring. Experience with the firefly (v1&2 against v3) suggests that the kite can be designed to fly further forward or back in the window independent of the fact that it has a twinskin leading edge - just as can be said for the peak 4 vs peak 5. (Past rumours about the Marabou v1 seems to suggest that you can design a hybrid that does not reliably relaunch - true worst of both worlds if true)

Video on the 7 minute mark has footage that looks promising... Wonder when they will release?
