Gin PG: new technology

Postby Bille » Mon Sep 26, 2022 12:00 pm

This new technology may have some benefits towards Kiting ; higher
AOA's are allowable :

When one brand , takes all 3 spots on an international race ; there
might be a reason !

I remember Bill Hansen mention this concept once. Problem is the construction mostly if I recall correctly.

Found an old link too: https://newatlas.com/bumpy-whale-fins-s ... mics/9020/

They mentioned construction difficulties , in the Gin video, also . :thumb:
But Gin managed to solve the problem !

I can see how the bumps would , cut down the span-wise flow , and would improve lift .
I wonder if those specialized feathers on the LE of an Owls wing ; help
to do the same thing ?

It is like Takuma's Kujira 1440 foil just tubercle adapted for air density.

Can the Tubercules now be combined with a Hybrid Single Skin for better performance?

I have been discussing this with a few people that are involved, the paperwork is being finalised and I am hoping a racekite wave leading edge prototype will be coming along next year. For kitefoil racing this could be a huge advantage, I bought a kujira foil to try it out and yes its awesome and the paragliding guys are raving about the new boomerang and winning comps so it does work. Not sure how it might adapt to freeride but our Gin kite designer is already thinking about this and he lead the redesign of the hybrid marabou v2 recently and he also rides hydrofoils so could be something in this area next year. I'm guessing the jumping performance of these coudl be even better, the current Gin Spirit is a boosting machine, with the wave leading edge it could be even higher. Also the reports of the wave leading edge comp glider are that for a comp glider its crazy stable and easy which means you can move to a higher aspect wing/kite and get that higher performance without the hassle of instability so there may even be a race kite shape with wave LE that can be used for freeride and boosting and/or even an ultra high aspect race kite. Also Gin are working on an 80knot hydrofoil boat which could have some overlap.

Did you kite the Kujira; if yes, which one? Could you tell a bit more on it?

Yes this new tubercle tech is probably a game changer in foil kites - and even more so if combined with my latest invention "Feathered Wingtips" which allow considerable reduction of drag and turbulence on that critical area of the wing

I have several designs for most kite boarding disciplines already finished. Obviously racing kites will have the biggest advantage of these inventions but also freeride kites are going to have unheard performance boost in near future
