Ozone R1 15m vs 13m

Postby buran » Sat Oct 22, 2022 1:01 pm

Hello, foilers,

I want to buy Ozone R1 foil kite instead of Ozone Edges 13m2 and 17m2. Ride only with Chubanga v2 foil. My weight is 73kg. I would like to ride foil kite from 5m/s to 7-7,5m/s. What would be your suggestion 13m2 or 15m2? Will 13m2 R1 will be enough for riding from 5m/s?

My race quiver of R1V4s is 9/11/15/19m.

5-7.5m/s is 9.7-14.6 knots. I would take a 19m racing in these conditions. The top end of this would be more comfortable on a 15m than a 19m, but even the top end of this range is not too much wind for a 15m R1. I would definitely pick the 15m over a 13m for this wind, especially if primarily used in warmer air.

Do you want to race buran?

Or do you like to ride (semi)fast and have fun?

As many of my friends race, and a few of them sometimes go out "just having fun" not practicing race performance.

Then they always choose 1 or 2 sizes smaller kites, as it is more than sufficient for riding in the low end, as way more fun and relaxing they say.

As tkaraszewski says, go with the 15 m2 if you want to perform in this windrange.
Actually a bit small in 5 m/s but you are light so might work.

If you want to have fun and the best windrange and go reasonably fast, go with the 13 m2.

If your into tacking with foot switch or upwind then downwind go the 15mtr. If just back and forth the 13 might do.
