Soul 1 vs Soul 2

Postby vanart » Fri Nov 25, 2022 7:24 pm

Besides the marketing hype and some obscure and strange reviews on the youtube "new sportier colors of S2" What else is there?

I am seeking opinions of riders who are not associated with Flysurfer, who had a chance to extensively ride both versions and could express some unbiased feedback.

What are your thoughts?

let's hear it. Good topic. I haven't flown the 2 yet, and really want to try it. It looks lighter that's the only difference I can see by looking at it.

I had a soul1 15m, now i have a soul2 15m, there is a huge difference, much much better, so much better, that i have a suspicion that my one old had an issue i wasn't aware of.

I hope someone else will also share their experience with us.

I think it’s an incremental upgrade. More similar than different. If you have a Soul1 is getting to the point it’s worn out the Soul2 will remind you how good the Soul1 was when it was new.

These kites should last a long time if they are not abused. People with a V1 soul can probably find happiness if the tune the kite.

Soul 2 is heavier as canopy material supposed to be more durable at cost of weight

I swapped out my 12m Soul V1 for 10m Soul V2.

Hard to compare directly because of size difference but I really didn’t notice any significant changes so far. Crispy new kites sure are nice though 😁

I have both, 10m v1 and v2.

And have a problem with v2. When I crash it, in a split second catches the wind and inverts. Now, never ever in 2 years with v1 the kite inverted on me.
With v2, every single sesh the kite inverts. Sometimes even 2 times in a sesh.
Thats related to my kiting, doing a lot of 360 rotations, sometimes 720, so I crash. But, when the kite dives and touches water, in that moment LE will catch wind. And that's it.
For sure it's my fault, but, why v1 did not catch the wind that fast? No idea. Some kites just do their own thing.

Other than that the kite is pretty much the same, jumps are the same, behaves exactly like new v1.
Maybe, I did my jump PB yesterday. It was high on 25kn.
The other rider (active on this forum), was on 12m OR Aluula. I was way higher than him, I think. He is expert rider.
Imo that says something about the 12m Aluula too. Both are expensive kites, however, will one develop issues more than another?
Maybe, depends on riding style and number of sessions. I hate to say but all my problems with v1 started after the kite was drowned with zillion L of water.
Pulling the kite through water like an anchor definitely killed it. Can it be fixed? Not sure. Rider here is using FS Psycho, drowned it many may times, and the
kite is still ok. Put this into perspective, I watched this rider to relaunch his Psycho for 1 hour, in ocean wash. What would that do to the Soul? But then, maybe
he is expert in the mixer tuning ;)

Hope this helps.

PS
v1 with the bag is 2.2kg, v2 with a bag is 2.6kg

thanks downunder great review. I'm pretty reluctant to get the v2 because I keep thinking the v1 might have a more durable canopy. I'm like you I crash my kites 100 times a session doing tricks I can't land.

I lost my 15m V1 (under a very long pier) and got 15m V2 in under 1 week.. so not exaclty side by side comparison but pretty close.
V2 seemed a bit slower to turn, less stable in the air but only by a tiny bit.. nothing collapsing, etc..
V2 does jump a bit higher.. I got 15m jump on it foiling recently.. never in 3 years I got more than 14 on V1.. that is if you believe woo3 readings..

This sounds like a a matter of tuning to me. The kites becomes more stable with time, as the z,c and b rows shrink more than a, at the cost of performance and thus jump height. If you don't counter this by tuning the new kite it will likely become more stable at the cost of performance with time.
