Peak v Soul v Sonic bridle stability

Postby Herman » Tue Jan 24, 2023 11:30 pm

Does anybody have an opinion regarding how well the bridle of single skin Peaks stay in tune well enough not to need adjustment compared to foil kites such as Soul or Sonic??

I have put all three types of FS kites through the wringer, and although I've not checked the tuning on my peaks, my guess is that tuning issues are less noticeable due to their deep window performance characteristics. Looks like they have the same ABCZ bridle configuration as Soul and Sonic so I presume prone to the same line shrinkage issues.

A long time ago I got my 5m peak stuck in a tree and out of exasperation ripped it down by force (lots of force). I tore one of the bridle lines but the kite was otherwise fine. Replaced the single bridle line and it flew like new.

Have you checked the peak4 thread here. There was sub-thread about bridle stretching by Horst Sergio. He did some color maps about peak tune. I recall there was some discussion about stretch/hours on sky.

My peaks got the first tune after a year of use. They were completly out of tune (yet symmetric), but flew perfectly before and after the tune. My guess is that peaks are not very sensitive to being out of tune.

Thanks to all for above replies. Helped me to decide to pick up a used 5m. Looking forward to playing with it.
