Ozon R1 V4 - Jaime Overbeek Edition

Postby fernmanus » Wed Jul 12, 2023 5:09 am

Hey Ozone,

The R1 V4 is a jumping beast, but the sewing thread bridles break regularly. How about a Jaime Overbeek Edition with beefed up bridle system? The red bridles are strong enough, just replace the crazy thin bridles attached to the trailing edge.

And no, the Chrono is not quite the same, great kite, but the R1V4 is just that much better for big air.

Thank you for considering!

Flysurfer have released the Sonic V4 specifically aimed at big air, maybe Ozone needs to follow with a similar model.

. What other foil kites are great for Big Air?
The Gin Instinct is excellent for big air. It is stable as the Soul, but has less bar pressure and is higher performance.

The R1 V4 is the best I have found so far - stable, light bar pressure and super high performance. The thin bridles are the only weakness. The kite can turn a regular rider into a super booster.

BTW - Does anyone know the diameter and manufacturer of the thin tan lines on the R1 V4 that are used for the TE bridles?

it's the 25DaN, 0.4mm Aramid line from edelrid:

Race kites do boost crazy good, but Gin instinct is almost as good for boosting and so much less hassle. I jumped a Diablo v5 race kite once (similar to R1v4 in many ways) in the boring gap between races in about 25kn and i timed it wrong, pendulumed under the kite and it overflew, fell down near me and bowtied right in the middle as i was getting on my board to relaunch. The bowtie was so bad it woudlnt' come out and the kite got bunched up, that kinda put me off jumping race kites. With a slightly studier kite like sonic or instinct that sort of thing is so much less likely, you can send it to the moon without worrying too much about mistakes.

RE the R1 bridle I had a mate who had an R1v2 that was the buggy version with a tougher bridle on it, he was telling me they sell buggy version of the R1, maybe that's what you should be chasing. But then the cloth is crazy thin too, I personally think race kites have gone so thin and light weight you'd only really want to buy them for racing. I think this is also why most racers don't do much boosting, unless they are on the training set of race kites and/or don't care about their gear.

Can the buggy parts of the brideles be bought separately for the R1 v4?

Hmm, I have done quite a bit of searching on-line, but I can't find a buggy version of the R1 V4. It is an intriguing idea!!!

Jamie uses the standard brideles on his R1 v4's so I guess they are not that fragile.

He is also super light..
I could imagine a 100kg rider would be putting a LOT more force through the kite/bridle.
