Virtual assistant to launch foil kite in very high winds

Postby funalex » Thu Jan 04, 2024 8:23 pm

Hello,

Here is a trick to launch your foilkite like a tubekite, with the help of someone... with a tent pole on the leading edge, the kite inflate completely, and you can check bridles before the man release the tent pole....done ! and smootly :)

How is the tent pole attached, and how is it released?

Difficult to see.

The line run through little dyneema loop, some are glued on the tent pol, some stay on the kite itself.

for the moment, the release system is just a larkhead knot... but it doesn't stay undertension very well... I must improve it with another idea to release ... for exemple, attaching the release system to the board... I don't know, any idea is welcome.

launch a foil kite in light wind is not that hard. I usually pull it inside de WW (hot launch) and make it inflate while actively flying it in 12'o clock

what I think is sketch is land foil kites in moderate winds alone.

I know it can be back stalled in the edge of the WW but it's sketchy. The best method I've seen so far is using a stick to grab the tip of the kite

In my long past buggy times, before 2000...... We put sand on the full trailing edge, kite in mid window. Be sure the kite rear lines can be shortend to create a full stall, (kite to flybackwards...) than slowly stepbackwards open upthe kite, carefully/gently/slowly release the brakes......Till it is above head..... (indeed not for beginners).

No idea if that would work with modern race kite and if you could fill it that way.

with this tent pole, I've launched my 8m kite in 35 knots last saturday very smoothly and safely... today (the video) the wind was low, but I wanted to record it.

that contraption is hilarious, however it's not that useful because launching a foil kite is easy even in high wind. It's landing the kite solo which is so incredibly difficult.

Because he knows it’s easy till something goes wrong and it can go wrong, to bad really fast. Also agree landing can be challenging too, best to get an assistance if possible. Whenever getting assistance handling a foil kite best to explain clearly how to help… LEI kiters might not know how to help.

After PL Arc Kites died off I didn’t think I’d see tent poles on foil kites again :bye:

That's a very complicated way to do it just using sand has always worked for me even in high wind it's the landing that's tricky if you're alone and you don't want a mess.
